John, et al: happy President's Day from upstate NY. Sleet, freezing rain, ice storms today, tonight, and into tomorrow. A good day to stay inside at the bench. Your project is coming along nicely John. The last pic is blurry but i see your grip and fighting butt fit up. What color thread will you use?
The winter Fenwick 2021 is wrapped in Gudebrod garnet size A nylon thread. This might be my favorite shade of thread ever. It's not the color of the Fenwick factory rod, but IMO it's a beautiful traditional old school look.
I double wrapped the female ferrule and snake guide. Because i had to trim the female ferrule this guide is placed .5" up from original guide placement. Added a brass ferrule ring too.
Moved the stripping guide down a bit, to a more comfortable reach position. Did static guide placement test and trial casting, and I found no effect of trimming the ferrule or moving the snake guide.
Thinking that the rebuilt ferrule will be fine with 2x wrap and brass ferrule support ring but the true test will come on the water.
The rod is getting a coat of spar varnish today.
The reel seat? I seem to change my mind every day. I have yet to decide but today i am leaning toward a two-tone Varmac with a "distressed" finish. Let's see what happens tomorrow!?
