Anyone touch up a green Epic 686 with some type of paint or marker. Doing a rebuild and have a few small places to touch up. I tried India ink of a similar color but it’s not taking.

Thanks.

Curious to see what some people suggest. I re-wrapped my 580 and had some of the paint come off while I was removing the wraps. Luckily there were all areas where (or at least close) I was wrapping my thread. And it helped I wasn’t doing a clear wrap! Not sure where your spots are, maybe they could be hidden with wraps? Good luck man.

I have had good luck with Pigma Micron pens. I did that to my blue Epic 686, and it turned out well enough that you'd have to look for the mistake to see it.

ill be building a green one this winter, my first question is why are you guys redoing the guides, did you feel they were not in the correct spots, did you use the recommended spacing from epic?
just asking for a friend.

This topic just reminds me of why I prefer rods/blanks built on their natural pre-preg color, rather than painted blanks. Sorry, not meaning to deviate from your post, and hope your re-wrap turns out well.

My 686 was my second build, and I don't remember what happened, but I made a mistake with a guide, had to remove it, and rewrap. Just a bit of the paint came off when I did that.

As far as spacing goes, I think the Epic rec's for the 686 is pretty on point. In my opinion, some of their other recommendations crowd the tip too much, but the 686 is more reasonable. I don't think you'd be wrong by expanding the spacing a bit between the first few guides, but I think you'd be well served with their recommendations too.

After a couple of years, got tired of looking at thread that wasn’t as translucent and clear as other Epics I’d built. I changed thread for the build and didn’t like it. Going to switch back to the same thread as my other Epics. And don’t like the reel seat anymore.
