Hi all,

Been quite a while since I had a glass fly rod project on the bench. I also transformed my very first ever SPG720 build into a spinning rod for my daughter and have been missing that little rod.

Thus, I’m back in the tadpole game and am going full circle to the model that started it all many years ago, the SPG720. True kitchen table build process.

New thread holder and longer wrapping jig works great.

Will post pics when it’s done. Good to have something to post again.

Lou

Love those tadpoles ! I've done several, even combined different blanks to do that. On others, added some length via a stent under the reel seat. Good luck !

This one also has a stent and will be a 1 pc 6’ 3” 4/5/6 wt. One more guide to wrap then it’s onto the spar varnish.

I look forward to seeing your work. I've only made one tadpole, a SPG780 that I extended and cut to a three piece 6'10" 6wt. They're fun rods to tinker around with. I took mine out for a spin again earlier this year after replacing a ferrule and really enjoyed fishing it.

Thanks for showing your wrapping station as well.

Very cool - that's where I did a bunch of experimenting when I first started building years ago. I have one more blank in my basement, just waiting for the right inspiration to hit me .....
