Has anyone built on these blanks or components? I am looking to do a build as a gift and am wondering if these would be decent rods or not as the prices are very reasonable.

Thanks,

It depends on your expectations. Will that blank outperform an offering from a top rod maker? Probably not. Will that blank make up into a fun rod? Maybe so.

At that price buy a couple of the blanks. Do a quick build* for yourself. If you like it you will have the experience to do a better build on the one you give away. If not, you haven't lost much.

The rod blank is marked as a 3/4, so I would expect it to work better with a 4 weight line. If it casts better with a 3 weight line, that would be a pleasant bonus.

* Quick build - inexpensive reel seat, premade cheap grip, inexpensive snake guides, simple wraps, water based finish. Maybe even build the rod to be easily unbuilt in case you want to redo things later.

I recently ordered a 3 pc 6’ 2/3 blank from them. It seems to be decent enough, but way too stiff to be a 2/3. Probably more a 5/6 wt in my opinion. I’m gonna save that blank for a spinning rod UL project next winter.
