OK, but rather than a just big pile of company names without context, please create a link to the front page of the supply company and indicate why it's of interest to fiberglass rod builders. Bassackwards did this with fishsticks4u. In particular, please note companies that carry glass fly rod blanks.

By the way, for a really comprehensive listing of supply companies, checkout the collection of sponsors at www.rodbuilding.org. I'm sure there are companies not listed, but I doubt there are many.

Here's a company that you won't see in most rod building supply listings - www.fiberglasssupply.com They sell small quantities of fiberglass cloth, polyester resin, and epoxy resin for the boat and surfboard builders.

Not sure what's going on here, but here's one of interest because the carry the "big-bore" Struble wood reel-seat inserts (0.460 inches) and at least one other series of large-bore inserts (listed as 0.470, but actually not that big). Basically Shoff's is one of the few companies out there carrying wood inserts that'll fit most big-butted fiberglass rods with minimal reaming. They also have a full line of other components and etc. So far, I've had good luck with them.

Tom,

I edited the entry for Versitex (above) to be in-line with your criteria.
But i think that this listing that we're assembling might be better suited as a wiki, rather than a forum thread?
That way any FFR member can add info/comments to each listing.

Thoughts?

Corey,

I'm hoping to get a section that outlines and specifies just glass rod blanks into the Wiki later this year (when I have some time). A listing of supply companies and how they enable the glass fanatic would be a good supplement for that page. In the meantime, if we can put suitable information into this thread, it will be here when we need it.

Thanks,

Tom

If I can I like to add one ... It's a place I used to work at while in college. It's called Greg's Custom Rods and Greg is the fella that taught me how to build/repair rods. He also is a supplier of Lamiglass glass blanks and the Seeker blanks amoungst other brands.

The 2010 Hook and Hackle catalog arrived in my mail box today. It looks like they have really expanded their offerings for rod building parts/supplies. I didn't see any glass blanks though.

I picked up a 1985 Compleat Angler's Catalog on Ebay recently. It has an amazing assortment of fiberglass, bamboo, and graphite finished rods and blanks. I think I should have had a time machine on my Christmas list!

I use Golden Witch for all of my silk thread needs. They cater to the bamboo builder but Erica is a dream to work with and will help find just the right color thread that you are looking for. They also have good agate stripper guides and every other component I've gotten from them has been top notch.

Unless I missed something Batson was mentioned but Utmost, Batson's retail outlet wasn't mentioned. I have had a good experience working with them. Their wed site can be found at "utmostenterprises.com"

I was just on the Struble web page and see on their news page where are introducing a new reel seat sometime this month. Can't wait to see what they come up with.

I've bought most of my threads from these folks

http://www.redrockthreads.com/

Reasonable shipping costs and usually received in a few days.

Here's a company that has just recently grown from a "garage full of fly stuff," as I was told by the girl on the phone, to a new retail store front in Missouri.

http://jcookflyrods.com/

I just purchased a Snake Brand set of guides, tip top, and Lemke winding check. All the sizes I needed were on hand, and the owner even blued the winding check (gratis) to match the black nickle low-profile stripper and snakes. Prices were very reasonable, everything was shipped right away, with no shipping charge and no tax for my >$30 order. I have no affiliation, other than being a satisfied customer.

I know there will be a run on Epic blanks (I want them all!!) but I want to help Kent at:
http://greendrakedesign.com/ in west Denver (actually Golden) because he's been really helpful to me. He has a pile of Epic, Blue Halo and other blanks in stock. No really!

He's also the only rod building retail shop in the front range of Colorado and sells lots of supplies including cork rings, Snake guides and RodDancer stuff but he really does a heck of job building custom grips with wood, cork, etc. in them. The banner pic on his site is just a sample of what he has in stock.

I have recently been very pleased with the quality and price of some custom felt socks I bought from an e__Y rod building store: calljmf

I have absolutely no relationship other than being very pleased with my purchases.

Get Bent fly shop, has a pretty good selection of low end FG blanks (s glass) and builders supplies. Might be a source for a new builder to learn on. I’ve bought reel seats from him. Good prices & shipping
