That is a common problem with the CGR's with the slip rings. I have some reels that will fit OK, but for many of my ultralight reels it is difficult to secure the reel to the seat. Aside from replacing the reel seat, options might include slightly sanding the mortise to make more room under the rings, or you could go to the hardware or automotive parts store and get some rubber O-rings to secure the reel foot to the seat. I think I would probably just sand the mortise down slightly.

I've had some luck squeezing both rings while pushing and turning in opposite directions.

I put cheap graphite reels on my CGR 2 wt rod. I file down the foot until the reel fit is to my liking. Doesn't take long, maybe 15 minuets to get a good fit.

I had a 4/5 rod that was so poorly inletted no reel would fit, and I had to go at it with sandpaper. My present 262-3 at least had the seat inletted, but they all are too short, such that the ends of the reel foot are resting on cork that is sloping up and preventing the foot from nesting into the mortised/inletted area. I think having a go at it with sandpaper is the only way to make them serviceable. I'm not a fan of grinding the finish off the top of reel feet with rings that are too tight.
This reminds me that I still have to replace the enormous tip-top with something not suited for a 12 weight rod! :lol

I tried my new Galvan Brookie and my redington 0 and my sage 3100 non of them would work I looked at my Tfo 1/2 wt it has rings on that, the rings are built so they are bigger on the sides the reel goes in on.my Tfo fly/spin ul has a ring handle that don't have any problems with the handle ,I guess that is a common problem with the Cabela's CGR rods thanks for the reply Mark
