Does anyone know of a rod blank that breaks down to 15" sections? Ideally 5 weight, fiberglass, 7'6", 6 piece. But I'm flexible on all of those criteria other than the length of the stowed rod.

I've found a few options in finished rods (4wt)
https://lelandfly.com/product/sierra-ne ... 6-7-6-4wt/
https://www.bluedun.net/axisco_stream6_e.html

Plus, if I expand to graphite I can get some MaxCatch rods about that specification for $80, and a Cabelas Stowaway for $169 (but they go on sale, or at least used to).

Ye Olde English Fly Shop has a 7 piece blank 8' 3/4 for under $50 shipped, but it's graphite and a little lighter on the line weight than I'd like. I'd like to keep the price for the blank under $100 if possible. It will be for a rod that may get knocked around a bit, so I don't need the highest spec.

Just curious to know if I'm missing something.

I recently built that olde english 7pc and its more towards a 4 than a 3 in my opinion, esp if you like a softer action. Glass guys would probably say it's a solid 4. I like the rod--built mine specifically for packing into alpine lakes.

Talk to Shane - he’s posted several very multi piece glass rods in the last couple years.

Thanks, Matt, I looked at the Twig, but as a 5 piece it is a bit on the long side for fitting into a briefcase. Brockton, I looked over some of the travel rods from Shane that I've seen made, and they were over 15" as well. I appreciate the endorsements, though!

Preast, good to hear a positive review of the YOEFS blank. It's in the running.

Until I can get something built, I have one of these that I was given years ago that is a fiberglass 6'6" 6wt. Maybe I could even change up the components to make it a bit prettier. :)

Well, while it’s not perfect, I’ve ordered a Vintage Berkeley B6F 6 piece 8’ rod. It will need some refurbishment by adding some guides, so I’ll get to do some tinkering. It seems like it will be an inch or so longer than I wanted but should still fit at an angle.

After reading viewtopic.php?f=2&t=67060&p=357333
It sounds like it should work. Maybe I’ll love it. :)

Good choice. If it’s an earlier model, I think it has great action. A moderate action rod. The latter models are a bit faster but still good. I like my Berkley rods. Some have a sweet action. Underrated.

I'm struggling to envision a suitcase that the Twig wouldn’t fit into. The sections are about 18” long. It even fits in my carry-on suitcase.
