Hi all, when you ink a fiberglass rod do you put varnish over the inked part or just leave it be? Thanks

I have found India Ink best, then a 50/50 mix of spar to mineral spirits over the text.
Hope this helps.

Yes this helps. I do have India ink and spar. Could I use paint thinner instead of mineral spirits?

Yes, I do apply varnish over India ink. I don’t thin it, but do wait at least 24 hours to varnish over. Haven’t had a problem yet.

Hello
If your going to talk Rod Making you should at least use the proper terms.
"The Script" or "Scripting" is done by hand with Ink.
If you don't clear coat The Script the Ink will flake and fall off .

If you thin, use the product recommended by the manufacturer. I don't think it's necessary either if wiped on over ink that has been allowed to dry. I consider the warm tone of conventional spar varnish a plus on wraps, but if you want more sparkling clarity on a label, a spray can of urethane varnish will do the job very easily and less prone to smearing the lettering,

“Script” got it. I have heard that description before but couldn’t think of it in my OP. I’m kind of new to rod building. Thank you all for your great information.
