That blank and orange would be a super classy old school look. But the far right is nice too.

Another winter rebuild. This was an 8' Berkley made for the Coast to Coast Hardware store. The rod originally was painted an ugly yellow and was in pretty rough shape but no short broken sections. Below are pics of the finished rod. I kept the original reelseat, (fake) cork grip, and winding check, used the original guides but added several more that I had laying around. After stripping the blank I wiped on 7 coats of Birchwood Casey Tru-oil. Guide wraps are black/yellow Classic Twist size A thread, wraps were color preserved and finished with MOW spar varnish. Next up is an 8 1/2' Sila-flex F-85

very nice ferrule wrap on that oversleave. Those are a pain to wrap cleanly. Yours looks really nice.

Wow, that Berkley blank is pretty underneath the paint. Well worth your effort. The spar looks good on it.

I’m super happy that you can make good use of that blank. It’s looking amazing. I have too many projects and not enough time.

Your right Carlz, it took a few tries to get the wrap to lay the way I wanted it.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I gave the rod to my son for a backup rod, hopefully he will enjoy it.

Agreed about the twist!
Looks like I’ve got another rebuild to add to the list: I picked up an S-glass Lami 7ft 4wt that was home built and needs some love. I’ve traded it for another 2h rod, so going to do the build to the other guy’s requests.

Oh hey - are we each starting new threads for our individual builds like last year or should we all just pile them on here?

Good question. I'm new to the forum so I just added my winter rebuild here.

I think I was the only one wanting separate threads, so pile them on here. Tis the season to get started.

I’m not starting till after the new year. Got all my parts and goodies lined up.
Using a White Shakespeare I’ve had kicking around. For colors just think Howard Johnsons.

The inspiration came from having my culinary class do papers on restaurants and chefs that changed American dining. Someone picked HoJo’s and I thought those colors screamed classic 50’s

This was to be my winter project but I couldn't wait and finished it last fall, not to worry I just acquired another project but in the meantime wanted to show off my newly rebuilt Phillipson. Majicwrench sold me this for less than a cheap Chinese blank, it was well used but still solid but all hardware and grip were well past their useful life. I wanted it to look like a modern Phillipson, so did my best selecting colors and hardware that I thought would be used today if Phillipson were still in business. This came w/fighting butt (which was lost) and gold plated hardware, thus goldtone reelseat and mini fighting butt from Proof along with two agate stripping guides, E-coat snake guides to replace the mangled/bent foulproofs. The original wraps were spirals but I wanted a cleaner simpler look thus butterscotch w/brown tips.

the winter lemon is coming along nicely. ferrules are set and wrapped with a first coat of varnish two nights ago. i am happy with the gudebrod sunrise and orange/brown jasper trim. i couldnt wait to wrap the ferrules. my favorite part. the guides i think will be sunrise. maybe a little jasper spiral. not sure yet. working on the 5.25" grip. tomorrow will be warm enuf to work on the back porch to final shape and sand. it will be a mini cigar sort of. i have 9 guides laid out but might need just 8. hoping to get time to tape them on. work out guide placement and do a little trial casting before the rain comes on sunday, having fun with this.
