I can’t find much information on this reel and am wondering if one of you can tell me a story?

What i did find said these were a 2/3/4 wt reel and somehow Hardy was in the mix, possibly as maker? Maybe a clone?

Anyway, thanks ahead of time.
Mike

well no, certainly not made by Hardy.
The lineage of the Daiwa fly reels, including SA System One in the '80s made by Daiwa, goes back to Olympic-Seiko Hardy clones beginning in the '60s, when they copied Hardy Lightweight series style and checkwork. Some of the parts will interchange between the Olympic Hardy clones and Lightweights - principally, springs, pawls, and 2-screw line guard.
(Used to replace worn-through Hardy nickel silver line guard with Olympic-Seiko chromed brass)

The Altmor from the new millenium will be refined by updated manufacturing to meet a large market in both Japan and UK.

This is what i’ve got coming. A little rash, but still what appears to be a very nice reel for the price!

I’m not sure how many of those Daiwa dual pawl reels I have—Hardy clones, SFs, Lochmores, 730s. Well over a dozen. Workhorse reels that just get smoother with use.

As covered well above, from a family of excellent reels, with an excellent adjustable check. viewtopic.php?f=4&t=8488&p=55280&hilit=Daiwa+large+arbor#p55273

thanks for showing the Altmor - that's a good looking reel, significantly nicer to my eyes than the old Daiwa Hardy-clones.
the check looks exactly like the Daiwa SF706, as in the thread whrlpool linked.

There was indeed a version made by Hardy in the UK for a couple of years. Those Alltmors came in a blue box with the phrase, "mid-arbor disc drag series" printed on it.

Wow, this thing is tiny; In a good way and im very fond of the craftsmanship shown of it’s maker. I have absolute respect for various Japanese Machine tools i’ve run over the years; so im not the least surprised. Looks like a couple more of these in respective sizes might be worth pursuit?

I’m wondering how this would pair with the Phillipson f60c blank i have; carrying the 150 gr. Commando smooth line?

In the words of Festus Haggen (Ken Curtis) of the Gunsmoke tv series, "Prettier'n a spotted dawg under a waggin"

I have owned both the S-100 and the S-200 models. In my mind, the S-100 was a perfect 4wt reel, and the S-200 was a perfect 5wt or 6wt reel, if you didn't need too much backing. I liked them, although I believe I thought they were a little on the loud side, but not nearly as loud as the Daiwa Lochmor and Daiwa SF series reels from earlier days...
