Hi,
I came across an old South Bend 1133, and thought I'd pick it up as a project, as it needs a few screws and a reel foot. Unfortunately I'm at a dead end trying to find a supplier.
I'd be happy and grateful if anyone can steer me towards a shop that might have spare parts for this.

Go through ORCA member services page (reel repairmen), find and contact Dick Janak.

You can probably find piecemeal screws that will work in hardware store bins - you'll need to match the thread.

Thank you, bulldog.

Hardware stores are on the agenda for early next year, and hopefully I can find an adaptable reel foot.

I appreciate the ORCA tip and contact, I'll definitely give that a try.

If you measure the pillar widths and if centers match Medalist and Martin, you may get a OnePfoot that fits, like on this M-68.

If the centers match, One Pfoot should be able to match the foot screws and spacers.

That is excellent! I was hoping a Medalist might be compatible but couldn't find one that was, but that picture looks as though it will suit fine.

Looks like I'll be making those phone calls again, lol.

Thanks again for your help!

If you like the reel enough to want to fix it, an alternative is to get another one; they are readily available at very low cost. Between the two, you will have spare parts, and at the very least, one working reel and a spare spool for it.

Also be aware, the red version of the South Bend 1133 is right hand wind only. The drag mechanism is not simply flipped like a Medalist. There is a pawl that only fits one way (see the bottom center in the photo I stole from Cameron below). These reels show up relatively often on the used market, so finding a used one is the easiest way to get a new reel foot.

The brown version of the South Bend 1133 (or 1133A) is a caliper clicker reel. To reverse the reel, simply load the line in the other direction. These are readily available for cheap on eBay. Some are assembled completely with screws, some are assembled partially with rivets.

Actually I did reverse the reel. when I got it it was a right hand retrieve, but I flipped the drag disc (blue) and switched the pawl and spring, and now it is a left hand retrieve.
I did look online and can find several for about $30, plus another $30 to ship, so it's an option, but at that cost I'll probably just keep looking for a parts dealer, as the reel doesn't have any sentimental value. Thanks for the tips.

Did the pawl screw self tap when you reinstalled it? Or did you tap the hole first? I guess everything else flipped without any issue?

It was pre-tapped, all I had to do was switch everything to the mirror image. Worked perfectly.
I've contacted most of the suggested sources, only a few left, so if they can't provide the parts, I'll either try to fashion them myself or get a spare from eBay. I'll wait until after the holidays and will update then.
I appreciate everyone's help with this :]
Merry Christmas everyone.

James.

The reels with the blue nylon drag plate can be reversed. The reels with a metal drag plate cant be switched to left hand wind.I dont know which type is newer but I would guess the reels with the blue drag plate are.

what screws do you need? I just wonder if screws off a cheaper reel would do. If that's a Japanese reel, I would look for those cheap medalist clones that might have some potential parts.

I would even try actual Medalist screws.

I need two pillars, one regular and one to attach the reel foot. I need the screws for the pillars (front and back), the screws for the reel foot, and the reel foot. I could buy an old reel on eBay, but the for the cost of the reel and shipping I may as well just buy a new reel.
If I can find parts that's different, as I wouldn't mind paying the shipping then.

Those screws may be 3-48 size. Medalists, Martin made, and Valentine all use that size screw. You can get boxes of 100 from McMaster Carr in stainless in oval and flat head down to about 1/4" in length. They ship quick.

You can buy piecemeal from Bolt Depot for a tiny fraction of McMaster

Bolt Depot looks like the best option, they even have bolts and mating screws that might do, and they ship to Canada. Thanks!

Bolt Depot treats every small piecemeal order with the same respect they give an industrial order, and ships 1st class mail.
McMaster can get you really tricky items in bulk that Bolt Depot doesn't carry, and only ships UPS.
Bolt Depot offers some pretty amazing items, such as sex bolts and shoulder bolts that solve engineering problems.

Update; I found an old "Pfleuger" knock off and the parts were interchangeable, it's finished and working perfectly. I gave it a matte black finish as the original finish didn't age well.

Ive had a few of these reels 1133,1144 and 1155.That drag should have a lot of stopping power. The 1133 is about the same size as a 1494 Medalist.

excellent.. now it looks just like a Pfleuger, at first I thought you were showing the knock-off reel that was the parts source..

I wondered about the parts compatibility, good to know it can be fixed with Pfleuger bits.

mine is still its battered red finish, I like the red..

I thought about getting a colour match for it, but I had the black paint on hand. Honestly, the sound of it is what attracted me to it.
