Just found this one and am in negotiations. Note the broken handle grasp on the spool. Any thoughts on being able to replace this with a like kind grasp? Or no way to do this?

Sandman what’s up man ??
Cool reel . Shame about that handle .
Looks like enough meat left to try the ole triangle pencil grip trick ..

You could try a medalist replacement handle but the pinion cap looks bigger than a medalist

Good luck .

Congratulations on the find - here are the two posts I made on my recent Rogue acquisition (been on my list for years).
These two posts describe the drag and function in detail.

I looked at mine, the handle is definitely a rivet.
It's almost exactly the same length as a Medalist knob, the base of the knob is 0.05" larger diameter.
With the broken grasp, you'd be able to get a good measurement on the spindle diameter.
A One-Pfoot type Medalist grasp repair would be prime, but it's going to depend on that post diameter.

Any repair that would let you keep the post would also be choice.
We need to know the spindle diameter, but it might be possible to cut, drill and plug-tap for a 2-mm machine screw, and make a baitcast-type knob repair.
Esoteric, but a desirable result. The trick for this, it has to be a 4-mm spindle diameter.
(might also also be possible with 5 mm spindle)

Anything else requires drilling out the rivet, and here's Mike's reel repair answer for a new post and knob to go with an empty hole in the spool.

How comfortable are you with drilling and tapping? Drilling out the rivet from inside the spool is a problem. It will be easier to cut off the post to access the rivet from the outside of the spool. In which case, you might as well try cutting only the end off the post, then drill, tap, and replace the knob.

Please don't attempt either repair with a handheld drill...

Or, call Bill Archuleta at Archuleta's Reel Works. Bill can probably cut a matching replacement knob from a suitable black plastic too.

These were built across town - I bet Arch has seen a few of them.

And since show and tell is always in order, took some reflection shots that show the pretty mill-swirl finish.

Thanks for the info and tips guys. While I am pretty confident in my machining skills, I'd rather send to Arch (a fellow Oregonian) to see if he can remake the plastic grasp to close to original specs as possible, and install it too. I'll reach out to him when/if I get it in my hands.
