I have this reel marked Allcocks with the stag on the back. However, there is no name. The diameter of the reel is 3.5”. The spool is 5/8” wide. Brass foot and red agate line guard. It’s got to be a JW Young made reel for Allcock. Other than that I have no idea of what reel this is, when it was made, or what they go for. No cracks in guard and everything works well. I’m looking forward to fishing it. Any intel is welcome. Thank you in advance.

Dovedale was narrow Young Pattern 14a and wider 15a,
and Ousel was Young Pattern 1 or 1c available in 3" and 3-1/2" - I believe your reel is this model.
(I also have a latch-plate Ousel)

Gilmour was narrow pattern 8

I had thought of the 14a but it has a drag system (does that matter?). I was told when I bought it that the reel was a pattern 5, but I cannot find one that’s the same as mine. What year do you think it’s from? That would be interesting to know. Thank you Bulldog for the examples you shared. It’s hard for me to make heads or tails of these things. Nice reel though!

What a lovely and desirable reel - and with the agate line guard. I bet the check is purr-fect.

I went in search of that Kennet model... came back to classic site : http://classicflyrodforum.com/forum/vie ... p?t=102599
Not sure I've seen that one with the bake-lite spool.
Those square openings look pretty keen.

island hopper - does the foot fit your rods ?

It doesn’t fit on my 4wt Fenglass. About 1/4” too long. It should fit on my older rods though. This reel does have a pleasing sound. Kind of like a muted, hollow Heddon 125. At least that’s what it sounds like to me. What time period do you think it’s from? Maybe circa 1935?

Bob Selb at Classicfisherman will offer M_Parts Old Young Foot that will swap in and match modern AFTMA foot length and profile.

Don't tackle removing the foot screws without the proper-fit hollow-ground screwdriver, and break it loose by tightening a smidge before you try to loosen. .

Bulldog, thank you so much for the tips and information. I’ll look into it. I also just noticed what pattern you thought this was. I just didn’t read it right the first time around. It does look like the 1c almost to a t but then mine has the quick release instead of the screw. Does that make a difference (I know you said you had one so what designates the pattern?)? Do you have a photo of a pattern 5? I cannot find one. It very well is the 1c at 3.5”.

Young sold all the patterns from their wholesale catalog to merchants with a menu options list, and agate and latch plate were among the options.
The frame and spool are the main parts that make up a pattern.
Here's a 2-1/2" pattern 1 that came wit a short 2-3/8" foot, and a (holy grail) US Market 3-3/8" pattern 15a with 2-1/2" brass foot.
