I just bought a NOS Fenwick FF756-4 on eBay. It will be my first! Serial number indicates 1974-75 manufacture date.

If I wanted to pair with a vintage reel for that serious "old school" look, what should I be searching for? Must be capable of 5/6 wt line and I'd prefer a left hand wind. I have a couple of NOS Hardy LRH's that might work, but open to suggestions.

I think a martin 67, 67SS, or Pflueger 1494 would be the correct match in terms of vintage and style/aestetic. Mine wears a 67SS. The 1494 will have a much better drag in my opinion. Be preppared to like the rod more as a 6 or 6-7, less as a 5. Even still its a great do it all rod.

I think there may be some variation in the rod taper - mine, (K serial number), does OK with a 5 line though I almost always use a 6. Here's mine with a 1494 Medalist and a stocked rainbow.

as Brookieboy says, a Martin 67 or Pflueger 1494 would be a good look.

Mine has an Orvis Battenkill Mark III which is really a kind of Hardy..

I like it with a 6wt DT, maybe a 5wt if making long casts on stillwater..

I have an FF70 and would agree with the suggestions above. I pair it with either a Medalist 1494 5wt, or a Martin 67SS with a 6DT. Both reels work well on the Fenwick and look nice too.

My FF75 works fine with a SalTrout 1554.
