For the obscure Hardy-made aficionados: here is a pair of sorta-rare Hardy-made LLBean reels that I probably overpaid to acquire. Both are built on the Marquis pattern. The silver/white reel is a Guide 5/6 with a straight-up click pawl check system. The black reel is a GQS 4/5 with a disc drag and a click pawl to make that sweet sweet hardy sound. They are nearly identical in size. The GQS is slightly thicker to accommodate its disc drag, but the spools are the same diameter and width. The Guide weighs is 4 1/4 oz and the GQS is 4 3/4 oz. I find it interesting that both spools have the same physical dimensions, but one is labeled a 4/5 and the other a 5/6. I'm actually not sure if they were both offered by LLBean at the same time. The reel papers I have for a Guide 3/4 (same design as this 5/6) has a 1996 copyright date.

Anyone here use a disc drag Marquis? Any issues?

I started using a Marquis 8 Disc Drag last year and liked it more than I expected to. Very smooth. I’ve been using it with 7 weight lines, and I’ve always found Marquis reels to be rated for more line and backing capacity than works for me. No other issues.

Nice reels...the silver ones came out before the GQS.
I have a 8/9 GQS for stripers and a 3/4 silver one...still going strong.

I like the looks of the black one better on the outside, and the silver one better on the inside.

I had a 4/5 GQS, super sweet little reel, sounds so good, wish I didn’t sell it. The other one you posted looks nice too!

I had a GQS (since traded) and it was a super smooth reel - you'll enjoy it I suspect!
