Hi

I have a click and pawl ultralite #6 and love the sound, and love c&p reels generally.

Got a chance of getting a disc version at a good price and just wondering if it has a similar sound to the click and pawl version?

I want to put a #5 size on my Epic 476 with a DT4 line and the black and silver finish appeals more than the grey.

Thanks

Hi Monty. Do you mean the JLH disc?
If so, I would grab it. You are getting a good deal so you can always sell it if you don’t like it. The pawls are similar if not identical to the pawls on the JLH c&p version, The sound somewhat similar. And you can make it silent as well.

The capacity is right, but IMO, the Sunbeam check used on JLH Ultralite click-pawl and small Cascapedias is the best Hardy ever made.

The JLH and Ultralite disc are the same reel with different drag. The Disc has a one way bearing and disc drag on axle. The pawl is two way and powered by a circular nylon spring. It produces very little drag and is there mostly for sound. It is slightly quieter and slightly higher pitch than the regular JLH (there are more and smaller teeth on the wheel and the pawl is smaller, toothed wheel slightly larger diameter). Furthermore pawl and spring are removable and the reel can be run silent. Disc is marginally heavier. Great reel. Disc drag is nice to have if you ever need to use it on a graphite rod.

And for the record, Hardy had the “JLH Ultralite” and the “Ultralite Disc”, but pretty sure Hardy never had a “JLH Ultralite Disc”.
Someone please correct me if I’m wrong…

From Bull Duram, "Strike-outs are fascist, besides that, they're boring."

Substitute Strike-outs with disc crags, and see the truth in it.
