I screwed up. While disassembling a 1494, I pushed out the Retrieve Pawl Pin (a "Spool Bushing" per the parts diagram) from the spool and now the pin is stuck.

Here's what it's suppose to look like:

Here's mine:

Has anyone had success disassembling this part? It's hard to tell what's holding it together on the other end. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

The latch cap is what holds it in place - should be a spring behind the pin - maybe you somehow have the pin inside the spring

Here's the other end of the bushing with the latch cap removed. Since it's probably trashed anyway, I might drill this end, reset the pawl and spring, and seal it with a custom plug.

Before you drill it, try a toothpick and superglue. Basically, glue a handle on the stuck part.

Swab the oil off the part with Qtip and acetone*. Cut a toothpick in half and sand the cut end flat. Place a small drop of superglue on the now flat end. Stick the toothpick to the pawl and let the glue harden. Gently wiggle, twist, and turn the pawl to free it. Take the toothpick off with acetone.

Tom

If you are using superglue, acetone is your best solvent for un-gluing successes, messes, and accidents.

Tom, thanks so much for the idea, it got me on the path to the solution.

The toothpick would not adhere to the pin with superglue, HOWEVER, using the tip of the toothpick as a probe, I poked around and cleared some crud inside the bushing, and low and behold, the pin popped free! I'm glad I posted on the forum before breaking the drill out.
