What you have there is nice, basically hardware store tackle - it gets the moniker "blue collar" though that may not be the best description of the people who owned and fished it.
Unlike today, it was a time when people couldn't justify more than one rod and reel, and both the item and finding time to use it was more valuable to them.
If you don't have a sales receipt from the hardware store, it's unlikely to date it closer than you've already done.
There is not going to be a registry for the rod. I'm sure we could find the reel in old merchant catalogs from 1940 forward, but again, not sure how that helps narrow a date beyond the patents you found.
Borrowed from the internet, there are enough of these out there, the question has been asked before

What is a automatic Martin Mohawk fly fishing reel worth? Not sure the year but it is blue and silver & has a 6 or a 9 stamped on it and the pat.#'s are 2.175.756 , 2.301.732
Patent was applied for in 1940, and published in 1942. You reel is after this date. Value depends on condition.
Martin got their start in 1898, and this is a 1903 catalog listing, which doesn't relate directly to your reel.
