This was in amongst a box of reels I bought. There is no reel that it fits, does anyone recognize this spool?

Hardy, last model Uniqua, I believe.
Though it's also similar to a Daiwa Lochmor.
It shares a similar latch cap with this Hydra, but maybe not exact, and a different latch bar from both reels.

I also posted this on the classic fly rod forum. One of the members there believes it might be an Orvis Battenkill mark series. That would make sense because I had this case with a Battenkill lightweight in it. If I’m not mistaken, would the Orvis have been make by Hardy at that time?

That's a really good possibility, and you should be able to tell magnesium - one-third lighter than aluminum.

I think that's the one. I just checked my Battenkill MkIII that came in that same green vinyl case... the spool looks identical and is 3-3/16" on the palming rim side. It's a nice reel and a spare spool for it would likely be sought after by owners.

A shame the spool has no match in the bunch.

Looks like an Orvis circa 1980 Madison spool to me.

It looks a lot like this Hardy Marquis c. 1995 with the exception of the the spool release mechanism. The OPs mechanism is a plunger style whereas my Marquis has a blade style. Otherwise the spools seem identical.

Well, we’ll soon know if it fits an Orvis Battenkill 111. It’s on its way to its new owner, one of our members needs it and I sure h ave no use for it.

Here's my Battenkill MkIII (which needs a little cleaning!). I'm pretty sure Clint's spool is a match...

It definitely looks like an Orvis Battenkill Mark series. I have been buying spools like this on ebay recently to match to my mark reels. since they are unbranded (don't say orvis on the spool) you can get them for a song!
