Picked up this nice 7' #70 a while back, stuck it in the closet and forgot about it and am now planning my next trip and would like to pair it with an old medalist or something of that cost and vintage. What would you recommend? Will be fishing for trout in the 7" - 16" range in mountain streams and ponds . Also, what line would you recommend? Thx!

The standard answers are going to be Medalist and Martin, such as M67A.
Both are a great choice for a DT5 or 6.

If you want vintage:
1) Shakespeare Purist----RHR only---same as Medalist
2) I like Ocean City 35 or 36---RHR---some are silent and some are either silent or clicker
Ocean City 75 or 76---L or RHR----silent or clicker
3) H&I Mohawk 1106----L or RHR---clicker
4) Pflueger Progress 1774 L or RHR Clicker
Pflueger Progress Sal-Trout clicker

1492 is click-pawl, RHW only.
Most people want the patent drag and option to reverse wind direction.

Super! Is there a good thread that shows all the variations/sizes/history for the Medalist?

Here you go. ...and make sure to scroll all the way to the bottom for the link to Mr. Cornwall's other article about the Medalist

http://www.flyfishohio.com/Anglers_Guid ... dalist.htm

After that, use the forum search option on here and you'll find quite a few interesting threads. Lots of great information.

What about a Heddon 310. Keep it in the family.

A Meisselbach Airex 371 would be a nice choice as well imo.

The 310 is quite a bit later. and that awful color. :rolleyes

An Imperial 125 would be a nice reel, but would set you back a pretty penny.
If you want age appropriate a pre-DA medalist 1494 would look great, or a 1492 & 1/2 (the wide spool version of the 1492. Or a smaller Young Beaudex (I presume they made a nice narrow spool model that would be suitable, but all of mine are in the larger sizes).
