I was checking the WTB section of the FFR classified section and noticed that fellow member Cheffy was looking for a red Heddon rod tube cap .
Cheffy was afraid it was a long shot??

Pffft!! long shots are my specialty...

After two days of checking my stash I found a red cap from a Mk2 heddon spinning rod tube .
I PM’d Cheffy to let him know what I found and asked what was it worth to him in trade ?
Told him I was looking for a Phillipson,Heddon or Martin print ad .
Alternatively I told him I would take some hand tied flies instead.
Cheffy hit me back and said he had a spool for a Martin 67a ,
So we made the deal and a week later I got this Super cool Martin 67a spool that has a gloss black finish instead of the Flat/matte anodized finish my 67n’s have.
The machining lines are closer together than my 67ns also.

There was some minor finish wear which I fixed right quick with the Sharpie marker trick..

Next up was to get the flyline sticker residue off the spool latch cover

Armed with my q-tips and surface safe Goop Off , I was able to get it looking good all Before I finished my Lil Debbie snack cake and iced tea.

I think it Turned out pretty nice.

As a bonus Cheffy sent me a cool hand tied foam sneaky Pete bass fly in frog pattern.
Since he sent me a bonus I’m glad I sent him a bonus Heddon tin sign I had doubles of .

My motto is one man’s stash is another man’s unicorn.

So I decided to dig thru my stash of reels and make myself up a unicorn reel
Behold the Martin MG7 with a gloss black spool

I love the way the gloss black goes with the “battleship” grey MG7’s frame.
I also dig the way the machining marks match up perfectly. I’ve got a unicorn rod in mind for this reel ..
Then I got to thinking why not make two unicorns
Behold a Martin 67c (c=custom)

(Early) 67n frame with the spool from the Mg7
I love the way it looks with the Early style trim ring in silver set off by the Mg7 spool that has No machine marks.

Then what to do with the extra anodized flat black spool?

It’s now a spare spool w/sink tip line for my other early 67n

Long story short if your looking for something don’t hesitate to post it in the classified WTB . No matter how much of a long shot it is .

Me and the FFR “pack-rats” will be there on stand by..

Much props to Cheffy and All the FFR members here helping other members with their expertise, knowledge, advice, appraisals ,special deals, trades and most importantly fellowship !

Wishing all, bent rods with Martin custom reels.
