Hey all,
I have acquired a nice Battenkill Mark III with a few extra spools. I really love the reel for balancing out my shorter rods and have been using DT5/6 lines on it. A perfect match for me at the moment.
I was thinking of spooling an extra up with a DT3 from 406 fly lines and I'm wondering whether the thinner diameter of the 406 line and the larger diameter of the reel (3.25") would necessitate a crazy amount of backing. And would that be a disadvantage? Perhaps adding more undesired weight?
My interest lies in streamlining my reels for smaller rods as I'm backpacking, which would mean less stuff carried on a trip (one reel and multiple spools).
How does this sit with you more knowledgeable users. Good idea? Bad idea?
Any input is appreciated!
