Have a pair of J. Austin Forbes 3" Avon clickers that I love to fish. They are a nice dark bronze color and are loaded with a WF3 & DT4 respectively.

The 3-weight reel has lost the "coin" from its backside. No idea what happened, it just disappeared one day.

I would like replace it with something. The original piece would be great but an unlikely find.

Your thoughts on a replacement piece & repair are welcome. What adhesive would be best or should I just send it to a professional?

Thanks.

It is easy to fabricate a spindle cap and glue it in place. It can be as simple or fancy as you want. viewtopic.php?f=4&t=69901&p=380550&hilit=spindle+cap#p380550 That's one of several that show outcomes from plain to ornate.

I used a new copper penny to fill in my JW Young LL Bean that had the same issue. Fit pretty much perfect but not sure if the JAF reels have the same opening size. I used a drop of epoxy and it's still in place.

I am looking towards finding a JAF Sandstone.
This was the first fly reel that ever caught my attention, many thanks to bulldog's pictures.

What sizes were they offered in ?
Any better acquisition methods out there ?
That guy Kevin still around ? Thanks.

Hi Brian, as far as I know, Sandstone was only offered in 2-1/2" and 3".
I haven't been in that market for 20 years, and you'll find many JAF reels in this forum archive bought since then.
They were the very last parts made from the JY Young fly reel line. Kevin brought them over here in his suitcase on multiple trips to control his import duty cost.
