Curious if anyone owns or has owned this reel first imported by Orvis a while back.
The original clearwater was a click pawl made in England. It retailed around 40 bucks in its day.
I see them for sale once in a while and wonder if they were any good. Thanks

The Clearwater reels of that era were made by BFR. I have a couple in the 7/8 size. The reel will do the job intended. The downfall of the reel is the back part of the spool is plastic. The pawls are also plastic. I believe plastic parts on a fly reel is a recipe for disaster. Good if the reel can be bought cheap, not so good if paying some of the prices I have seen the reel listed for recently.

If that was before Orvis bought BFR, Cortland sold their version of the same reel as Rimfly
