Repairing Charlton reels

I have a Charlton 8450 reel that needs repair. Anyone know shop that can repairs Charlton reels? The sealing of the reel’s drag system no longer works so water easily gets inside. Further, depending on the retrieve direction, drag tension is getting weaker or tighter during using.

I already asked Ross Reels, who acquired the Charlton reels technically, whether they can repair the reel. They answered it is impossible because they did not receive any spare parts or reel specification.

Thanks.

The first person I would contact is archuleta's reel works

You'd think Ross has changed from a fab shop to a distributor of imported shiet.
Buying the name, they should have also bought the responsibility to support them.

Thank you for the useful information.
I contacted archuleta's reel works and a reply came.

They said they cannot repair any Charlton reels because each different model needs special tools in order to take them apart.
Ross doesn't seem to be willing to repair Charlton reels, so my reel is likely to be just a paperweight...

an expensive paperweight.

If you have a need for big salty cork drag, late Fin Nor did better IMO than Abel's Seamaster copy, and if you can find the Cabela's CR made by Fin Nor, they're a steal.

Isn't Mako the "new" Charlton? I'd check with them. https://makoreels.com/

bulldog,

Now, I have an interest in heavy click and pawl reels.
Something like Abel classic reels looks nice.
Abel has discontinued the reels so I have to find one in the second hand market.

novisor,

The reel discussed here is the original (old age) charlton.

After Jack started production of the mako reels, I had asked him to repair a knob of another charlton reel.
He told me that he can't get involved in repairing the original charlton because the rights was sold to SA.

I have a number of the makos from the smallest 9500 to the largest 9700. haha.
They are very nice but over-gunned for light saltwater fishing or bassing using 6-8 wt even if the smallest one.

bulldog,

Thank you for your welcome words.

I am a Japanese guy and live in Hiroshima so my fishing targets and places are possibly unfamiliar to you.
But I hope it makes my post interesting.

takeru,

If a little plan comes together, I might be able to help you. I can't say more than that.

verhampshire,

Thank you for your offer.

After all, I decided to buy an Einerson reel from a friend.
But the direction of how to treat the Charlton 8450 remains undecided...
