My favorite Martin multiplier is the MG10. The frame is held together by a twist lock - lift that aluminum locking strap seen behind the handle in the first photo, then give the front plate a twist. Very handy for cleaning or getting the tippet unstuck from the gears. I think the multiplier ratio is 3:1-ish. This reel will pick up line very quickly.

Be patient and you will find one at a nice price.

The Orvis Green Mountain 1915 ER (exposed rim) was made by Martin in the USA.
They only sold them for about a year starting in 1986. They were nice reels and held an 8WF with 100 yards of 20 lb. backing.

The weight and capacity on the MG10 are published as 5 3/4 oz and a WF9 line with backing, respectively. The drag is the classic Martin click pawl as shown by Bulldog and The Purist. The fish has to work against the drag and the extra friction in the gearing. Still, the MG10 is no salmon reel. It is more of a freshwater bass reel for an 8/9-ish weight line.

Like many Martin reels, the spool is actually quite large. You may want to fit a cork arbor rather than filling the spool with lots and lots and lots of backing.

you could get Steve and me wound up on Martins when FFR was young
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1625

Also, if your're looking for a particular Martin, leave a pm for middlemac - he probably has it, and will probably sell to you when he visits the forum

My first good fly rod was an Orvis Green Mountain kit with 7-1/2' Fullflex A rod and Orvis 1915 (Martin 67N) reel

The only multiplier I've kept and will never sell is my MM-11, which is the MG-10 with dual click-pawl.

The one time I've found multiplier indispensable is white bass fishing. It takes long casts with a sinking/shooting head to get their attention, and they'll follow all the way to your feet before picking up the fly.
If you're messing with that much sinking line, you're using a shooting basket to keep the line from wrapping around your feet.
When the white bass takes the fly at your feet, 70' of sinking line is back on the spool in 3-4 seconds and you have the fish on the reel.

The Orvis 1915 ER was a bit lighter at 4.7 ounces. The finish was a bit thin on them, but I’ve found that Aluminum Black is a perfect color match touch up.

I still "wind up" on Martin more than any other. I was going to let the search function do it, and now Bulldog gave you a great start.

If you have the USA made Martin Classic, with the click pawl shown above, you have a great reel. All the 67s have the same clicker as well as the MG-3, which is the most sought after Martin. My favorites are the Trophy series, they are like the Classics, but with dual pawls.

N is for narrow, but what really makes the 67N nice is the alloy foot.
The Most useful Martins are the 67 models, A and N, also the MG-7; the most desirable are MG-3, MG-10 (the click-pawl multipliers are peerless), MM-11, and the LM series (Browning MZ series). I can do without all the rest, and have no use for the caliper clickers with tiny teeth-chattering drag gear.

A comment for Bulldog on the 67N reel. I have an unused 67N that is identical to my 67A's except for the all black spool. Same size, same width, same foot, just a black spool. I know the reel you show is a Orvis branded 1915 which has the MG style foot and is all black. It also lacks the line guards of the 67A and 67N. I have always thought it was just a later version of the 67A.

I've never seen a 67N with a steel foot - doesn't mean Martin didn't make them that way - they made just a few different parts and assembled them into Many different reel models.
No other maker ever made such quality reels for comparable price.

I found the MG 10 a bit to noisy for my tastes....but I LOVE the MG72 and it's QUIET. Used a MG72 for decades carp fishing, you can end up way into your backing and a multiplier really helps.

Trying to recall the other one........multiplier built like a 72 but without the killer drag....EDIT it's a 68.........got one of those too, good looking unit but spool can overrun when pulling out line, I need to sit down and fix that someday.

I always have dogs right at my feet, and being able to pick up line in a hurry is important so it doesn't get wrapped around the dogs.

Tom,
If I’m putting an 8Wt DT line on the MG-10 do I need a cork arbor or am I fine with 100 yds of 30lb backing. Using it as a bass rig.

Cyguy, it depends on your DT8 line if you need a cork arbor. Temporarily wind the DT8 line on the reel and see how much space you have left. If there is enough space, add 100 yards of backing. If the line and backing fits and the spool is close enough to full, you're done. If there is a lot of space left on the spool, then consider a cork arbor.

Ok thanks Tom,
I put 50 yards of 30lb and a 406 DT7WT on my MG10 and mounted it on my Phillipson Pacemaker. Spool filled up nicely and the reel balances well on that rod. I’ll be bass fishing this combo tomorrow for the first time …
