my grandad was a blacksmith, and I have hammer and axe from his forge, pinned in his handles with his square nails.
I loved turning the air blower on the forge when I was a kid.
It ranked up with playing the Victrola, which was also in his shop.
My uncles cleaned up scavenging the antiques when they sold the farm and moved into my younger uncle's house.
I was a pallbearer at his funeral.

Try a search - won't you ? I bet his name comes up 4/5 times to assist. Super cool.

The creepy part is how many of my photos google-up anytime you search a specific antique reel - nine on this search for Stuart.

This is probably your own fault for taking such great pictures. ;)
Joking aside, I’ll add my thanks for many great posts and even a few very helpful phone conversations a while back when I had some fairly important Phillipson Rod decisions to make.

Cautiously just helped fix up another reel.. this one for a good buddy... and he asked me where I found out how to do all this stuff to reels.
I told him here and told him who - this fella who shares his tips and tricks with us all.
Cheers again.

Ron is not just helpful and a wealth of information, but patient with the uninformed, too... I know that from experience. :) I think if I could go back to my high school days and start life again, I might pursue an education in engineering of some sort. Such is the impression his knowledge has made on me...

Guys like him add an incredible value to what is already a fun forum to check in on. Thank you sir!

Thanks guys - Brian, glad it worked out for you - the science is good, but there's still art and skill to getting it right, and that comes from you.
Bob, engineer is less of a job than it is a world view - you apply it to everything in your life - not always a good thing.

:) I understand... I know I'm not the proper personality type and it was more of a daydream. :lol

I once went on a moose hunting trip in northern Quebec with an uncle who was a retired engineer. Regulations at the time required two tags on a moose. We were like the odd couple, but armed with big game rifles and big knives. It may have been very lucky that I killed a small bull on the second day and shortened the trip... otherwise, one of us may have eventually driven home with the carcass of the other in the back of the truck. :lol

Agreed. I also would like to acknowledge, not only bulldog, but many other very knowledgeable people on here. I have learned a lot from everyone.

I know I'm not a regular poster, here. I don't consider myself knowledgeable enough to offer much advice, and bad info is worse than no info. My father always said I could learn more with my mouth closed and my ears open than the other way round, so there you are.

Thank you to everyone.
steve

I’ll echo what many have said previously … Ron has been very patient and helpful to me in a short amount of time and has improved all aspects of my fly fishing. The thing that impresses me most about Bulldog is that he never belittles a new member or tries to intimidate them. I’ve read a lot of Ron’s posts and he has answered many questions from members 15 times but you would never know that by reading his responses … patience of Job!

Ron has done some work on reels for me and has been kind enough to supply some "over the phone adult supervision" when I was in need of help on some things I was doing myself. Count me in on the thanks.

Though I have been interested in fly reels for quite a long while, I'm just a duffer when it comes to the mechanical bits.
I mainly surf the Classic Fly Reels sub-forum. Any time I see Bulldog's post, I take a look. I usually learn something new.
Thank you Ron.

I'd like to throw a thank to Bulldog as well. You always have an answer and explanation. They may not be my question, but I learn something every time.

I want to add my thanks to this post. My joy in this collecting thing would not be as great without Bulldogs posts and other form of assistance when needed.

The words just flew out of my mouth - again " I learned so much from bulldog. "
Speaking with a pal about which fly reels I admire and why.

How you've been such a great big help for so many people just like me. Thank you.
