Yes indeed, I’ve asked many questions about reels, and he always shares what he knows. Thanks again Ron.

I started paying more attention to details... and I believe Ron helped make that a important part of my collecting.
Not to mention the amazing quality of the photos to boot ~
And the variety of ' cool ' ....

Brian, you among several others I tutored back on Clark's board have far surpassed me on collecting.

I will add my thanks here as well. Bulldog has been very generous sharing his experience and advice with me. Nothing in it for him other than sharing his knowledge and passion. Thanks, Bulldog, for increasing the knowledge and fun I have, that I can now pass on to others.

Little things... like how to change over a specific reel ...or.. to great big things like start to finish Golden West restorations...

And the using of Boeshield.. and tying knots...and on and on... super great advice coming out of this guy for free is quite rare these days ...

Try a search - won't you ? I bet his name comes up 4/5 times to assist. Super cool.

The creepy part is how many of my photos google-up anytime you search a specific antique reel - nine on this search for Stuart.

Indeed! Ron, your wealth of knowledge and your generosity in sharing it is the big reason I look here first when I'm sipping my first coffee.
Thank you,
Pete

You’ve heard the term “a walking encyclopedia”...add the willingness to share, and top it off with being exceedingly responsive...you’ve helped many in this passion Ron, including me...

A sincere Thank You..

I have to add my thanks to Bulldog. I know I'm not a big poster, here. I don't feel I'm knowledgeable, enough on fiberglass or vintage equipment. I come here to read and to learn, and Bulldog's posts are always at the top of my search for answers.

Thanks again,
steve

I also like that you can count on Bulldog to correct an error of fact or clarify a point of theory. Just for instance, I am pretty sure he coined the term "tuna can" for some of the simple Martin 60 series reels and the delightful little MG3. If he didn't, he'll know who did.

Add my expressed appreciation for Ron's knowledge and generosity, not only about reels but also rods, water, and fishing technique.

well thanks again, guys.
Consider it my kind of fun.

I put in the time and effort for most of this in the previous decades.
Managed to turn my tackle interest into a way to make much of my vintage tackle pay for itself - have owned an embarrassing quantity of it, and turned much of that into other things.
Of course I have tackle I'll never pare, but mostly what I kept were all the photos - 98 GB and over 50,000 files (just checked).
Also a pretty good stack of catalogs from across the pond, all protected for long-time storage and occasional reference.

Times change, we change with them, our interests both broaden and focus.
Cameron once said that I nerd about everything, and that's pretty accurate - whatever I get into, pretty much treat it with a minimum thoroughness to satisfy me that I'll get what I want from it.
Also consider that engineer is a lifestyle as much as a profession (kind of in the same vein as attorneys see the world as an argument)
I thought Steve came up with Tuna Can Martins, but we were nerding over them together one day on Clark's board, before I invited him over here to nerd some more.
And John, my signature disappeared somewhere along the way - tried posting it, it's not there anymore, but found it elsewhere.
Regards to all, keep me on my toes...

Brian, I had to super-glue several different available pawls to a big flat metallurgical lab mount, along with an original Heddon 125 pawl for thickness benchmark (have a few worn-out examples of the Heddon pawl).
Lap them down to thickness on coarse then finer bonded-diamond wheels, then jewelers-file and try each one to find the best function.
Hope it was worth the cost.
