no name, no pack drill, no clicker - only the spring on the shaft, which gives quite a bit of drag, in both directions. It's kinda neat-looking though and nicely made.

If you look hard, somewhere on the reel you'll find this symbol

Ron got it right with the symbol ( OC logo ). I have a few of these, and this one is actually 305 (small) or 306 large silent drags -since there's no clicker only spring tension.


BTW that swirl crank knob is very unusual in color- most were gray, white or bone colored plastic. The porting on the spool tended to be different variant for the 305's. recently I picked one of these up too. That's a good find. I fish mine on a Robert Sherrill built 6'6" 2/2 cane 3/4 wt and it matches very well.

This one is similar but with a clicker. Also has the OC mark inside. Possibly Wanita.

I bought it about 25 years ago at flea market for five bucks. It was painted black but beat up. And I could see scratches under the paint so it was apparently a re-paint. It sat in a box untouched until a couple of weeks ago when I decided to clean it up. When I hit it with warm tap water and a toothbrush the black paint just washed right off. A tiny bit of the original paint is still there in a few pits and places. I rubbed out the scratches with a green plastic scour pad then 0000 steel wool. Then polished with Simichrome.

The original Wanita was made by Sturdibilt which merged into Ocean City, and sold for one dollar.. this one is most likely post-WWII, when the new Silent Drag was introduced.
So it's an Ocean City Wanita Deluxe 305, attractively priced at $2.25



They come in a wide variety of versions, solid and ported spools, clicker and silent, from early 1930s until 1950s.
The latest models have both the Silent Drag and a clicker that can be turned off. Now I want one of those ;-)

I too have a nice boxed one. I understood the Deluxe designation relates to the porting. And I read somewhere that one of these appears in “that film” based on Norman Maclean’s memoir.
