Hi all,
I have an old medalist 1494 that has a circular line guard and "sculpted" pillars. inside it does not have the typical drag system but just 2 "safety pin" looking springs and a 3 sided "clicker" on the bottom. Can anyone tell me if this reel can be left hand retrieve?

I am wanting to make some old medalist 1494 and 1492 into left hand retrieve and will contact Mr. One-Pfoot about this.

Thanks

You reverse one pawl by driving the pin down, rotating the pawl and driving the pin back up, or you can make both pawls reversible by grinding away the pin with a dremel tip.
You need to then reshape the spring to get LHW lead

and much easier to do with old 1392's and 1394's = no lineguard. Same operation as BD points out in the viewtopic link.

Won't that round line guard still be on the wrong side for LHW?

factory custom, reversible wind 1492

I've converted a few St. George to LHW, where the owner didn't intend to use the line guard.

thanks for the replies - using the above photos it appears that some internal parts are missing. Between that and the line guard issue this one will remain as is.

Some Medalists were made with one click-pawl, some with one click-pawl plus a spare spring, some with two click-pawls.
