I just acquired one in "as new" shape. Other than a company ad, there is not much info on this model on the inet. I have heard that it has the same disc drag as the Young Jubilee.

Any background would be appreciated.

I plan to use it on GL steelhead.

Thanks,
Heddonist

Congratulations, you have a reel I was looking for a smaller size recently.
They made two variations. One machined barstock alloy, and the second composite - both used the same drag - I believe the Jubilee drag is the same as Revolution, but this is the Sea Venture drag.

The parts were made on the JW Young line, a few Young-made reels made it out the door - I have Sea Venture 3750, and sold a second.

The Young-marked composite reels were sold as Neauvex Series II 0230 (Series I were click-pawl). I sold this one, too when I needed to generate funds, and would snag it or another back in a heartbeat if offered - the composite reels are Great, and it's a shame they didn't take hold and save the company - the balance of Young-marked Neauvex reels were sold in Japan.

When Young was leaving the fly reel market, JAF bought up all the parts and began assembling reels in the US.
Young closed the fly reel line in Nov 2001, and JAF is down to intermittent stock sold on ebay by fishpersonkev (JAF)

bullldog 1935,

Thanks for the input.

I looked into the "intermittent stock" on ebay and bang zoom I found a JAF 2/3/4 disc drag reel in dark bronze that will go great on a CTC 3 wt on a sea grass blank built for me by Vlad.

way cool.
Needless to say, I have some nice old and late Youngs, from pattern 1c agate

to Revolution and Jubilee, Aerial, and a prototype brass Thistle from Redditch with an excellent click-pawl mechanism and winding plate design.
All of the JAF reels were prototyped to be new JW Young models but they decided the market wouldn't bear the cost against imports, and they chose never to take manufacturing offshore. JW Young still bench-makes centrepin reels in Redditch.
Garry Mills, who benchmakes his own reels in Redditch was the last foreman of the Young fly reel line.

One of the nicest JAF reels was the Sanstone click pawl.
