I can’t stand a loud reel either and I haven’t heard most of these reels mentioned
But I have owned two of the original Tibors and a Ross San Miguel...The are sweet sounding. I’ve fished an Islander (click/pawl) and loved it.
I’ve also used some Orvis CFO’s I really liked but I’ve heard others that I didn’t like.

I’ve been trying to save the money to buy an Islander for a 6wt I have.
It’ll will be the next reel I buy

the hands-down loudest reel ever made is Hardy Hydra.
The frame casting resonates and rings like a loudspeaker.
I once hooked up a tailwater rainbow, and a quarter-mile downriver, heads were spinning like The Exorcist.

Bulldog-My Hardy Flyweight had the same effect on an angler far downstream from me.It made one hope he didn't hurt his neck. :)

JLH #5 and #6 are both great.

But when a good fish is on, they all sound great.

I don't know if mine are Hardy or BFR, but my vintage Orvis Battenkill click pawls are very nice sounding reels, as noted by others here. Not what I'd call loud, they have a resonant but not tinny or cheap sound. Sort of a pleasant buzz, better than the C.F.O.s to me, and I like them better overall.
Martin "tuna cans" are too sharp, but the 65-67 series sounds pretty nice and is easy to have and hold, though not very much adjustability. I've not owned the better Martin - poor man's C.F.O. models but I bet I'd love those too.

There is something about the sound of an old Hardy reel when a fish is running....maybe that is why they hold their value so well

Can’t believe no one mentioned the Orvis/STH
Presentation EXR reels ..
These sound so rad !!

The only reels with reverb on the springs and tolerance so tight you get a Champagne pop when you release the spool .

If you’ve ever heard those springs sing you know what’s Up! ;)

Great reel! I use mine for reasons contrary to this thread when I want to annoy people.

The coolest sound they make is when you pull the spool from the arbor drum and they go *POP*

That "POP" is cool. So is the design. I recall Bulldog that we had a similar conversation about the Orvis/STH series of this reel a while back. Although I fish mine plenty, I can't get over the resulting "twang" the drag makes, even tough its a fairly smooth drag.

Martin MG-3 really sounds bright, just fun to fish with. Or, a nice Medalist in any of the smaller sizes.

Not saying it's the greatest, if there could possibly be one, but I have always enjoyed the purr of the Heddon 125 Imperial.

Enjoying all the posts, but I am unable to suggest a “best sounding” fly reel. I think it’s because each of my favorite reels holds a different meaning to me. For me, it’s kinda like trying to decide whose voice sounds the “best” to me - my spouse’s, my mother’s or my child’s.

My favorite sound of all my reels is the Tibor Spring Creek CL...it has a soft incoming purr and is silent outgoing.

I agree that nothing beats the manly growl of a Tibor cork reel.

A modern classic, but I’m being won over by the sweet purr of this little sweetheart…

Most likely a little too late for the OP. A couple that sound better than my Hardy's and not mentioned - Lamson LP 1.5 light and VR Designs Trutta Perfetta. I purchased the VR Designs reel earlier this year and if I get a chance I'll post my thoughts about it when I get home in a couple of days.
