The only reel I own that has any provenance is a Saracione Mark 1, Model 3 1/4". It belonged to bamboo rod maker Don Schroeder. It perfectly balances my 7'9" Schroeder Quad.

It is not a reel but I have a bamboo spinning rod made by Russ Peak for a Harry Midgely.

^^^This jogged my memory.

If stuff "sold by" counts as "owned" I guess I'm in with two reels I bought off Hoagy.

The first is a 3-1/8" phone-latch Uniqua I bought from him at the old Suffern Show back in the 1980's. The second is a 1980's LHW 3-3/8" Perfect (my 1st and only Perfect until the LHW reissues a few years back) that I bought from him at his house & shop, also in the 80's when I went to hang out and drool over Garrisons.

I still own both reels and both look as good now as they did when I bought them.

I bought this reel from a collector who got it from Hoagy. Whether he "owned" it or not, fished it, etc., it is the smoothest purring reel I own. I've never had a reel this much fun simply to play with on a cold Winter day.

Thanks Ron. You posted about State yet? Hope the team did well!

PS, my youngest daughter's boyfriend is a wrestling coach, not sure what level. He has heard of Mack in Texas.

I'll trade you Perfects....;)

When I bought the Uniqua from Hoagy, I was complaining to him about the then "astronomical" price of fly reels like the current CFO's which had just cracked the $100+ mark. He said, "here's something you might like" and I bought the Uniqua from him for $90.

My Perfect was one of a new generation of Perfects with a brown ceramic line guard that were offered, I believe some time in the late 1970's or 1980's in LHW with a screw securing the spool.

Since I can't deal with the RHW wind thing, I never owned a Perfect despite wanting one more than anything! When I went to visit Hoagy one day he had a few in the shop so I pulled the trigger on the 3-3/8".

I had an opportunity a few years back to have Hardy swap out the ceramic line guard for agate for $100 but like a dope, I never pulled the trigger. I don't know if that's even possible today with the new ownership.

In regards to the LHW thing with the Uniqua, despite being RHW, I fished that reel regularly LHW for over 20 years and never felt any RHW bias.

A few years ago I bought from a dealer, a well fished Martin MG-9 reel (with Lefty Kreh scratched on the back). The dealer told me he was in charge of "passing along" some of Lefty's unused fishing equipment to other anglers. I let the dealer know how very much owning one of Lefty's reels meant to me.

A few weeks later a personal note arrived in the mail from Lefty (on his personal stationary). Both the MG-9 reel and the framed note now hold places on honor in my library!

I got this reel for a song because his name was on it. Bulldog helped me make it the best little left-handed 4-weight reel I've got.

Nice (original) engraving on a reel always improves it, IMO

When I fish this reel, I often wonder who "LCH" was.

One could make up some pretty cool names with the initials on the last couple of reels. :P

Holy bananas - a NICK BLOCK sighting! That guy was such a fly fisherman. Travelling the world.

I have a spool that a couple guys scribbled on:

On a more serious note - I own many a fly reel that were once owned by members of this very forum.
Thank you.

I’ve not owned any thing of note, although it’s hard to know…. Seen this keep popping up on ‘said’ auction site, I used to love watching Rex hunt and I’m sure the Australians on here would approve! Just don’t fish for salmon so can’t justify it!

I acquired a well worn CFO II screwback

It did come with a signature

If I recall correctly this did come from the Seattle Washington area. I did some light searching to see if I could identify the previous owner, but did not come back with anything definitive
