Perfect match! Great choice! I am going to look into getting one of those reels, for sure. Thanks for the picture!

Easy to now see why you went for the black reel of all the styles discussed ... goes along well with the black rings ... overall, a really pretty setup !

I've also much enjoyed this thread and would like to offer another suggestion
for others who might be in the market.
The Redington Drift 2/3 click and pawl reel.
At 2.6" in diameter and weighing in at 3.5 oz it is a tiny but very well designed reel.
At $99.95, also very affordable.

Lugan, I find DT2 is a nice option with a two weight I have.

Scud dog, which dt2? I'll never cast that rod into any running line, and so it's the front 25' or so of taper weight distribution that matters. Many dt and wf lines are the same for that distance within a line series like the LT.

I like the look. It needed a small diameter reel like that and English styling is a plus. The Hardy Flyweight or Orvis 2 9/16" CFOII would have also been fine. The TFO BVK O at 2 3/4" would have been to large although it's probably the lightest in weight. It's also has that Exotic Supercar mag wheel look to it that I can't yet get used to.

Marty, those are the 3 reels I was thinking about for this. I found that all-black Avon and couldn't resist. You don't see many of those.

By the way, I really like that 4.5" mini grip. It's the way to go with these super short rods, even with XL hands.

I've been using Marryat Baby (size 2) reel for several years now. Beautiful little guy. Superlight.
I've used it on my 3wt rods, and it's on a glass rod now. Trying to find a spare spool but no luck.

With a 3 weight line, it still have capacity for sufficient amount of backing.

Although, to be quite honest, so far I only needed backing when I hook a nice rainbow. They do pull like a locomotive.
With browns and graylings I don't think I ever needed backing.

I had a Hardy Flyweight years ago and I couldnt fault anything about it.It might hurt your ears a bit if a big fish pulls you into the backing. :)
