Yeah. That was a pfantastic pflury of fposts. Now I have to pfinally admit that a fpolished Pflueger can be fpretty pfine. I always pfigured a pfingter tip winding crescent was the only fproper fpolish, pfor a Pflueger, but now I ain't so sure.

This is a pfun bit of tompfoolery, and a good look at some great Pflueger reels as well. The bright Aluminum example above is especially pfetching.

Pfurthermore, I'm now a Pflueger pfisherman! Just acquired a new Medalist 7/8 pfrom Dusty to use with my Pfred (sorry) Paddock 867-3. Doesn't have the rugged appeal of the pvintage reels, but has a pfull pframe and I pfully expect it to work pfine.

I don't collect, all the reels and spools posted are pfine pfishing users, but I impulse bought a SalTrout 1555 on the auction that might get polished out like a pretty brass example that I think bulldog1935 posted previously. I'll have to see it first- it might be another pfishing tool as is.

I sold that brass SalTrout, which came with a rough pfinish, and replaced it with a perpfect gunmetal-pfinish example, that looks even better. So don't polish unless it needs it.

I pfully expect the new Medalists to be classic reels, in about fifty years..

Indeed! Love those display cases. Re the new offering becoming classic -- I dunno, the pawls don't have that never-wear-out, tool-steel appearance. Time will tell, in the pfinal analysis...

The problem you will have with any Pfuegers in fifty years is non support on the parts side, already all the spares for the Medalist are rare.

That is what buying a "parts reel" is for - parts. Although, the new Medalists may last and last.... and last.

The pfirst pfly reel I bought, pforty years ago, was a 1495. The last reel I bought, last week, was a1495. How can you not like a reel which always works, is cheap enough pfor line storage, and looks right on a classic rod? I throw out low ball offers on DA's, sometimes CJ's in reasonable condition, and never regret adding another.

Another pfit-to-pfeature run of Pfueger fpics ! It's a point about parts, but if someone is a tinkerer (as opposed to manufacturer-service), Pflueger is about as good as it gets for fparts availability or used parts reels because so many were produced. My own experience is that if you get one new or in sound condition, you will never need parts except maybe for accidental damage. I got my pfirst 1494 in the early 1960s. A few years later, from Coren's Rod & Reel Service, I bought a little stash of drag plates, springs, and frame-mounted plungers in anticipation of routine replacement. I never needed them and eventually gave all but one drag plate away. Keep the reel clean and lightly lubricated and they last, last, last. And darn good Pfluegers are available at very modest prices as described above. In our own FS section, someone just listed a beauty at a bargain price, presenting a great opportunity for another fiberglass flyrodder.

One Pfooted 1494 Akron and DA. The DA has line guard removed- just sculpted pillars.

I didn't realize it on the start, but the 1555 is a "half" size wider than my 1554; it should be great for *8wt is my guess. These must be relatively rare, it's the first I've ever seen other than on the 'net. In "my hand" it weighs about the same as a 1495. It is noticeably rhw biased, I'll have to work on that if i keep/use this. I'm open to suggestions on protecting the metal/finish without spoiling the patina.
