Show us your Medalist.
We haven't had enough reel pictures recently and the Medalist have not been getting a lot of love.
Here's one to get us started.

I don't have any of the super cool tricked out Medalists. Here are a few of the ones I do have though.

I don't know what age it is, but it is a 1495. Somehow when you get back to the made in USA medalists, they are all just like old friends. In fact my first fly reel was 1494 CJ and it is still in regular rotation on my 6wt rods.

I've never seen the handbreak before, is that from the factory or a user addition?

I think it is a prototype. The date 3-28-30 and "JOB 23890" are inscribed on the foot.

1492, a beauty for sure and was hard to part with but it wasn't getting much use..now it resides with a proud new owner.

CJ. Not as classic as the raised pillar round line guard models of the 1930's but still nice.

I just traded a smaller reel to my brother for the 1498 CJ. While not made in the USA it is still in very good shape. The other one is a 1494CJ with a made in the USA spool.ImageImageImage

I'm ashamed to say I don't have any medalists anymore. I used to have an old one but it wasn't the cool circular line guard ones. I'm always casually in the market for one though.

Duff,

Can you tell us more about that reel? If I could find a lhw one like that I'd totally snatch it up. Not being lhw is the main reason I got rid of my old one ...

I don't have any of the old ones around, people keep paying me to much for them. Here's about ninety percent of the ones I do have laying around the house.

Pfluegers were the great American fly reel: viewtopic.php?p=109921#p109921

Tradition around here has it that there can never be too many photos on a Pflueger thread:

When I bought my first Pflueger, I didn't give much thought to what it looked like, but I knew it was an improvement over my Lawrence Sunbeam knock-off.

Next we'll have to have a revisit of Valentine's day, the Valentine being "a Pflueger on steroids" in Bulldog's phrase.
