Great looking reels in what appears to be excellent condition.

Enjoyed seeing them!

Thanks for sharing those! I have not encountered to many of any of those. Enjoyed looking at the pics, particularly the mechanicals.

That STH design is wild! Does it work well?

Cool collection. It's really neat to see them side by side.

Very nice collection! Thanks for sharing. I had never seen that STH one with the spring before either. I had seen the green UK made ones and knew someone who loved using his.

Very cool. I'm going to have to add that to my wish list.

It doesn't have a strong drag, I was wondering if it loosened up over the years.
It has enough drag for use as a switch/spey reel and there is always my friend the palming rim.
I am going to contact Orvis to see if extra springs are available and or make a visit to the local hardware store to see if I can get a little more out of the drag.
It has the same basic design concept as the STH Airweights/Orvis Presentation.

STH made CFO Saltwater

Both pawls are grooved on the back where they rest against the spring.
Both pawls are intended to be engaged, if you rotate a pawl it will turn and become engaged when the spool is turned.

The wind and play are adjusted by flipping the pawls over.

Hello,

Did you ever locate hardware to repair this reel, specifically the springs?

Thank you

Those STH CFO Salts pop up from time to time on the auction site. I like the Presentation a lot better. Looking at that design, I don't trust it. Besides tension, what keeps the spring tight to the pawl? Also, I think over time, the tension will become weaker, unless you detach it.

I have the original Argentine version and would definitely not consider it a capable saltwater reel. The click-and-pawl "drag" is way too weak for strong saltwater fish. Mine also has the habit of the pawl flipping out of the way of the spring when the line is stripped fast. Good for largemouth bass and other fish that don't make long fast runs, but indequate for most saltwater gamefish.
