Martin 67N question

I just picked up this Martin 67N in my local bike shop. I was in there to buy some ice skate guards, and in amongst the mish-mosh of fishing stuff were three martin fly reels (this 67N, a 77w, and IIRC, a 67A). Though it might go nicely with my new 7'6 6wt CGR (and it does- kinda of a working man's Medalist!). Any thoughts and when it was made? From the box and papers, I'd date it 80's-90's. Looked like it had been in the case for awhile.

Nice score. That reel looks brand new and with the box! Those are rock solid reels.

By the 90s they had gone to the SS (skirted spool palming rim) versions on that same reel body. Kevins' 1979 catalog shows the 67A (same reel, basically, but with natural aluminum frame rings rather than the black on the 67N). After that all- black and before the SS versions, the 67 style had a thin bright aluminum trim line on the frame ring. So I'll say mid 80s. By the late 80's I think that pale blue box was out, and blister packs were in. If those reels are cheap, you might as well go back and get the other two. Mechanically, they're the same, the 77 being wider spooled.

Thanks for the replies. They are all new in the box, $30-$35. I probably won't buy another, but if anybody else wants one, let me know and I can direct your the shop or figure out a way to get it to you. They have been sitting there for years, and it's shameful to think that they aren't being fished.

I bought a 67N which was marked as an Orvis 1915 in 1979.

There seems to be quite a few of the old Martins either in mint condition or NOS.
Everyone should get one!

Martin made a lot of reels, and, yes, they are pretty easy to find new-old-stock or shopworn but as-new in the box. They are the Pflueger of adjustable click reels. Very good to have umpteen of, picking them up as a bargain presents. If those two at the shop are around $30 each, I'd pass them by at that price, but not before I offered $40 for both. If I didn't already have umpteen, I might offer a bit more.

There's a 77 wide spool now:

By golly, I think I spy a 67 with the narrow bright trim ring in its box:

There must be a few more around somewhere:

Right handy to a few relatives:

The all-time prettiest Martin is the model 68 multiplier, especially this one with a One Pfoot.

Honorable mention goes to the model 77W

Leaving out the brand, the all-time prettiest fly reel is this Allcocks Gilmour, a Young Pridex by another name - the name I give it is Pridex in a Tuxedo.

definitely a well-decorated thread.
I recognize the Cortland, who's the bronze/gold? Is that Eagle Claw?

The one that looks like a Cortland is a Western Auto. If you look closely, it has two line guards indicating it’s a 67, not a 66 or 65. The one that looks like an Eagle Claw is a Cook (an old Colorado sporting goods company). It’s a 67 too. I have the original box and papers for the Western Auto, but not the Cook. The Western Auto is practically mint. When I get home today, I’ll add a picture of the backsides.

Ok, here's a pic of the back sides. It looks like I don't have a pic of the box. I'll have to go dig that out from somewhere.

I have still never seen a red Marlin 67 labeled as a Cortland. Maybe someone saw a red Western Auto thinking it was a Cortland. If someone has a pic of a Cortland 67 made by Marlin, I'd like to see it. All I have seen are 65/66's.
