Last year when I bought the reel, everything was working. The other day I noticed that the On Off click didn't work in the on postion. I removed the spool and noticed that the pawl is not engaging the gear when in the On position. I cannot see any reason why it doesn't. It doesn't appear to be bent and if I move it so it engages, when I turn the gear it slips off.

Suggestions?

Dave

Nope. The spring is there. What is happening instead of engaging the gear, it is slipping up. There doesn't seem to be anyway to tighten or bend it back. How many drag washers should be on the reel? I think I counted three but can't remember.

then this rivet is splayed, giving you side-to-side freeplay on the pawl arm

That may be it. I'll take a look when I get home from work. If it is, then would you suggest trying to tighten it by tapping with a hammer and flat tip punch?

a couple of more photos, Dave.

the ratchet plate is attached to the spool, and it keys into the drag gear, which remains in the frame, and with the pawl arm engaged into the drag gear. The on/off button is a cam the lifts the pawl arm away from the drag gear.

Ron

On my reel the crimp is recessed. The trick will be to push the cam from the inside of the reel up into the cap and then recrimp. I may have a small c clamp that might work. I look at it tonight when I get home and let you know how it went.
