DoctorFly, thanks. I don't have, never will have, and don't want a reel of that type, which makes looking at them here all the more worthwhile. Just the graphics of the time, let alone the reel, are a pleasure to look over. I hope having the reel and papers provides you even more pleasure. Thanks again.

Awesome posts in the "first quarter" of the new year! Certainly a better showing than the stock market.

Kev- I copied and printed the M70 papers and put them with my 70. Many thanks.

For Marryat MR owners:

Most of the information is in Japanese. Here's what's relevant:

Don't recall seeing the papers for the mighty Martin MG-9, so here they are.

There's recently been some interest in this big reel on the board, and (or should I say, therefore?) suddenly they've been popping up on the eebster with regularity ...

The double-sided trifold paper is big, just like the reel (each page measures 4-3/8" x 5-1/2"). There are also basic specs for a few other MGs on page 5. Page six photo sucks but it's just the usual warranty page.

That is a good sheet on the MG 9, Middlemac. But darn it, it still doesn't tell what "MG" stands for.

It would be helpful to have a checklist of posted papers pinned to the beginning of this discussion.

A list of reels in order of posting- and cross-referenced by manufacturer- would help steer folks to available papers, and at nine photo-heavy pages of papers and counting, save time and help us avoid reposts.

I can make the list but not anytime soon as I have several ongoing board commitments.

If anyone wants to take it on and is willing to make occasional updates, give me a PM and I'll help out with getting it pinned to the appropriate place.

UPDATE- I believe we have a volunteer to do the legwork and post the cross-referenced checklist. Thanks!

Yr faithful Projects Coordinator,

I always figured MG stood for My Gosh!

Guess these days it would be the OMG series.

The paperwork that came with a Strikeright Wonderflo reel. I don't have a date for it, but there is a patent number that could be researched.

Scored a Farlow's catalogue this week.

The condition is exceptional, with nice tri-foldouts (think Playboy for flycasters) of their bamboo rods, and a price list dated July 1951 (that's eight months before Yours Truly was born, btw).

28 pages, smallish format (8-1/4" x 5-1/4"). The price list is 12 pages, 7" x 4-1/2".

Here's my 3" Grenaby posing alongside the illo. The cost back then was 2 pounds, 12 shillings 6 pence

Back cover ("Half an hour with Mr. Farlow an important preliminary ... " you're not gonna get that at Bass Pro Shop ... ). And are those actually looped lines strung in the front window?

middlemac.

I like the Farlow's catalogue. We need more of these.

Has anyone got a Milward's one of similar vintage?

Regards,

Doc

Vix ... I'm honored that you would use my page from the calendar to photo your Valdex pages. So cool.

middlemac ... how neat is that Farlow's catalog! Tossing your Grenaby into the photo was a very nice touch.

Doc, thanks for the great catalog, hope you find your earlier model.

It was nice to see my Trudex in there (their Floatcraft Mk. II, mine's not marked for Milwards), which I recently picked up from reelsmith.

Doc & Cameron,

Don't mean to turn this into a show-and-tell except as it relates specifically to Doc's catalog spread!

Here's my smaller Milwards-marked Flymaster Junior referenced in the text on page 47, the 3" version which had the un-perforated spool and no line guard.

Props to bulldog as this is my favorite (and beautifully tuned) fly reel acquired in the last year. I do love it.

Oh how I do want to add a couple Milwards reels to the mix. That brown finish is really attractive.

Well, who knows where to put this as it would fit in several discussion categories and isn't fly-reel only. You never know what you'll find when rummaging your old tackleboxes for something completely different than what turns up. This item is pre zip code, so early '60s or older. It's shown with a Garcia 3-Start Andy traded to me recently. I couldn't find my Mitchell 300 to put in to balance out the photo, and I don't have a Garcia fly reel. I hope our resident Conolon encyclopedia, Richard, sees this. If you do,Richard and want the actual paper for your collection--or to hang over your work bench, p.m. me your address and I'll mail it to you.
