Very nice reels Jamie. You're likely to start a new collecting trend.

evanslmtd, I just used your papers- which I don't own- to tune a couple of Martins. The exploded diagram of the 27-part 72SR was particularly reassuring when it cam time for reassembly Image

Nice to see this section become active again. Does anyone by chance have the papers for the Orvis version?

Ron and I were thinking we should feature some vintage reel ads here on the Reel Papers thread.

If you've got 'em, let's see 'em! Here's a classic to get us started ... can anyone identify the other two "light, single action reels" mentioned in the ad Image

Oh my gosh, I love that Martin ad, not to mention the recently posted Pflueger sheet. That really adds to the pleasure of having a Pflueger of that vintage. Middlemac, two other reels, and what kind? Are there other kinds of reels than Pflueger and Martin? Never heard of them. And I know a Pflueger didn't cost more than sixty dollars, or even pfipfty bucks, so that can't be it. I think a Pflueger was less than pfipfteen. I know I bought a 1495 1/2 in 1976 for pfipfteen or so, but it was marked down from like twentypfive.

I'm still confused. My Orvis Green Mountain II has the floating disc drag but I thought it was the 67SS, or 67N or 67A or, or ... ? Needless to say I'm still look for an extra spool ... I just don't know which one. Great idea on the ads.

Here is the paperwork for the Ross Reel and a couple of photos of them. I think they look great on glass. I also have the san miguel three and think this is one of the nicest reels I own. I like the san miguel in the three and the Ross in the RR-1 the best. I also own the colorado and like that on also.

Greetings Everyone, Here are some papers from reels I've purchased recently. I hope there's not too much overlap with earlier postings.

Enjoy.

A recent discussion of Orvis multipliers prompted a request from Cofisher to post the papers for the Gear Fly reel, which came in an Orvis branded version (he has a fine one) as well as Cortland, Leeda, Gladding South Bend, and probably some others. I have a Gladding SB as new, and a Leeda Gearfly, so beat-up that I had nothing to lose painting it. So here are the SB Gear Fly papers; the mechanics and such should be identical for other branded reels of this type. Sorry, I can't do much editing photos for clarity over my dial-up tonight; if these are really shabby I may try again to improve the image.

Added April 2015: These reels, like most with symmetrical checks, are designed to be used with one pawl engaged according to winding direction. The other is rotated out of engagement and is thus a spare. Here is a closeup showing, first RHW, and then LHW

RHW:

LHW:

It is easy to tell if they are in the correct position for winding direction, because cranking will produce a soft, light whirring click, whereas the outgoing direction click will be louder and offer more resistance.
