No puns ... Was curious about the TRUTTA model, how does it work?

fingernail,
The DAM Trutta is an OC 77 knock-off, a tricked out version with fancy knobs and agate line guard, but a compression drag reel based on the Ocean City 76, 77 design. The agate guide can be moved to acommodate left or right hand wind.
Some of the Japanese made Shakespeare and Berkleys from the 1970's featured these compression drags. These fell out of favor when better more reliable drags came along.
I'll try to get a photo of mine later.

The Trutta was also available with an agate line guard.

For comparison- a Herters 709L (OC 77 trade reel) and a DAM TRUTTA 5200 1/2 same sized but narrower drum.

the DAM' s powder coat finish mirrors some f the earlier 76 77 variants

However there are minor differences in the caliper spring and the compression nut v OC screw. otherwise it's based on the OC design

Although I didn't get a better photo of the "grey" agate guide, you can it set up LHW. Also there are slots for the guide to be changed right or left hand.

DAM right Bud ...

Truth is I've acquired some of my finest vintage reels from Bud- this one is no exception.

I've found that the DAM series of reels tend to be unappreciated... possibly because they were never marketed extensively in the US. Rugged and dependable, they are my favorites along with some of the old Brit reels.

I've always liked them, especially the prewar brass Effzet for a match on light-line blue collar cane - Tonka Prince.
How you doing, Ralph?

btw, Herters did import quite a few DAM Truttas, and Cabelas began their business importing Quick spinning reels.

Darn, I wish I still had my 1960s Herter's catalogs. Bulldog, do you remember if they were rebadged--most stuff Herter's sold was, as opposed to using the maker's usual product name--and how it was puffed up by the name and/or the product description? I know it was the best ever in the entire complete whole wide world, as well as the finest, but I mean any details you recall.

Bulldog, I'm doing just fine, keeping an eye open for vintage rods and reels as per usual. The Trutta was advertised on the Classic Forum and I later found out that the guy had bought it off of UK eBay years back. It's in great condition, but I was hoping to find a manual or schematic should I ever want to get "into" it.

How are things down in the great state of Texas??

Ralph
