I just read an interesting piece over at TFM. Glad to see Steffen rods will continue to be produced, and it couldn't be in better hands. Wishing Shane the best of luck, I look forward to casting some Graywolf rolled Steffens!

Such cool news from Shane: “I am proud to say that I am now the owner of this classic rod company and I am looking forward to rolling these blanks in my Britton, Michigan rod shop for the next 40 years.

Soon I will be able to offer Steffen Brothers blanks and finished rods to anyone who is interested. In the meantime, I have a small stock of blanks at the moment and we're working extra hard to finish the rod shop that I started last year to house all the Steffen Brothers rolling equipment.”

Congratulations to Shane and the Steffen Bros!

Thats great news for greywolf rods.I hope that Mark and Tim get to do a lot of fishing in their retirement and wish them the best of health. We were fortunate to have him and his brother stay with us here and could not have been more pleased to hang out with 2 great guys who were very knowlegible about fiberglass rods and after fishing with me on a tiny stream sent me a proto 6’ 2/3 that he revised and became my favorite 6 footer.I never met a man so humble it took me a half hour to get him and Tim to autograph my fishing case. The first time he came here he must have brought 15 rods to try and when I cast the 8’ 3/4 I told him it was a piece of sh&t and he just laughed and said but that’s my best selling rod.I did fall in love with the 7’6” 2pc. And ordered a 5 pc. Which will be buried with me along with the 6 footer.

Great news Shane! Congratulations on your new business! I have two Steffen glass rods you built for me in the past, an 8’ 3/4wt 3 piece and an 8’ 5/6wt 3 piece. Both rods are a wonderful example of the quality work you do!
Both rods are my go to rods.
Now you’ll be able to do it for years to come.
Best wishes!

Awesome news for sure!

My first thought after reading the announcement was will Shane or can Shane bring back some of the iconic tapers that people have dreamed about and re-create produce them for us again? 5 piece blanks, 7' 9" 3/4, etc.

I just strung up my 8' 3/4 and did a lawn cast session to honor the Steffen legacy.

Congrats to Shane and the entire Steffen family! There has been lots of speculation over Mark Steffen’s retirement, but I doubt any of us imagined the outcome would be this perfect - truly a win-win-win. Can’t wait to see the first Graywolf rolled Steffen blank.

I have to admit to some similar thoughts, but my actual first thought was relief that - since Mark built a new butt section for my 8’ 3/4 5pc a while back - clumsiness on my part with that rod may not mean its complete demise.

Congrats, and glad to know these great rods will continue to be made.

I saw Shane’s Instagram post a few weeks back about driving home from Flagstaff and hoped something was in the works. There aren’t too many people that have the equipment/experience needed to roll your own glass rods. Between McFarland, Dusty, and now Shane continuing the Steffen legacy I’d say we have some great options. I can’t wait to get a couple Michigan rolled Steffen blanks to add to my collection.

This is good news, and best wishes that Shane is successful in keeping Steffen Brothers rods and blanks alive into the future.

I love my Steffen rods.

I wonder if Shane will use a copy of the Steffen Bros handwritten logo on the rods and blanks? hah

Even for a guy like me who's never owned nor fished a Steffen, its great news. Only time I've had my hands on one was at Aurelio's place. We cast several rods, his and mine, and the Steffens had a unique feel all their own. Some day I'll have one. He told me the pos story. Only Aurelio cold get away with that eval. For Crusty's sake, I hope they remain brown.

This is fantastic news. First glass rod I built and fished was a Steffen 7’9” 3/4wt in 3pc. Very excited for Shane.

I just hope Shane is able to faithfully produce the original Steffen tapers and isn’t tempted to “improve” on any of them, though I fully support the addition of any new ones. Good luck and good fortune Shane, exciting news indeed.

Really good news for a lot of us. Please put me down for one of the first blanks you roll.
