I got the rod out in the back yard. I like the action of this rod, but it is a bit heavier than I'm used to. It is "fast for glass" with almost all of the bend coming in the top 2/3 of the blank and the bend in the top 2 ft is pronounced. I would say this rod is aggressively progressive. I took out an IMX (8'6" 5wt) to compare it against and the iconoglass loads much better inside 20ft, but casts just as well out to the limits of my back yard (40ft or so). It is fast, but not overly so. My only complaint is that it is relatively heavy. Pictures and a more detailed review will follow.

What line were you using? Were you still able to put some power in the cast with the flexible tip?

Power is not lacking. Flexible tip means fast action (tip action). If anything, it is going to feel too fast for you. It isn't as fast as their graphite, but it it isn't slow either. I would say moderate-fast action.

And I just got some NFC spam. They say that all models are all back in stock and on sale for $150.

I suspect we'd all love some pics when you get a chance :)

Just noticed that you said you’d provide pics. Lol.

I received the 8wt blank a week or so ago, haven’t built it out yet. Initial impressions are that it is well made and going to be very fast for glass, bare blank felt very heavy in hand, that may very well change when it’s built. As has been stated, very progressive w most of the flex in the tip

I just started to build my 8054 in grey.
I wiggle tested the blank, of course, and confirmed what has already been said. It's heavy (66g, exactly as advertised). there's a lot of swingweight, it really needs a grip and a reel to balance it. The action is fairly fast, you won't get much bend in the lower 1/3. What surprised me a lot, though, is the very low amount of rebound. Tip couterflexes, comes back straight and more or less stays put. I'm waiting for a proper test, but I suspect it will be a good caster.

My experience as well, bare blank feels heavy, tip has zero bounce.

It is a good rod, but fast. No pictures yet, I'm battling the signature right now.

I just received my 8054 and 7644 blanks in clear, and they are well-built blanks. The wiggle test feels like other S2 glass rods I have tried lately; specifically the TFO Finesse series. All S2 glass feels fast to me. The blank looks like it will build a fine rod, and that balance should not be a problem with a good grip and seat on it. More later!

A friend of mine made a couple of videos of his first outing with the white 7644. You may find take something out of them about the action on this one :

Is it NFC supplying the blanks or a dealer? Its NFC building the blanks right, I am assuming they're not sourcing the blanks through another company correct?

I would call them. I would presume they are building the blanks, since they have all the equipment, but I couldn't find clear confirmation on their website. I would ask them. The ferule design is supposedly special so they are precision and you don't need to send your whole rod in to get a replacement piece. The blank is unsanded, but the ferrule section is smooth.

Their site is not the easiest to navigate, but this section strongly implies made in USA: https://northforkcomposites.com/nfc-materials/.

I couldn’t resist ordering the 7’6” in cyan. What thread would be good for a sunfish color scheme?

The packaging that came with my gray 5 wt says made in USA.

I was thinking red wraps with metallic silver trim wraps might look sharp on the cyan blank FWIW.

From the video, it appears the top half of the blank is flexing. The casting stroke is very fast, so it’s a bit hard to see. The rod looks very promising.

Agreed, my takeaway was that the caster is working very hard to make the rod load.

Just got my 7’6” today. Initial lawn casting impressions are that it casts tight loops without much effort. The top 1/3 of the rod flexes, but it doesn’t flex much with a 4 weight. It feels more powerful with a 5 wt. This is good a 4 wt dry fly rod and a 5 wt terrestrial/popper/streamer rod. Awesome!

The blank is perfectly straight with almost no dark inclusions in the translucent cyan. There is a light vertical line inside one section. It’s not a crack, just a blemish. The label says made in USA. I’m not sure why they charged federal excise tax.

Thanks for the report.

I'm sure they could tell you, but probably part of their accounting for the federal excise tax on fishing gear, aka the 1950 Dingell-Johnson Act, Federal Aid in Sport Fish Restoration. https://taxmap.irs.gov/taxmap2018/pubs/p510-033.htm Plenty of descriptions with a web search.

Oh no! That 10wt might make it to my quiver!

Edit: on sale now for $109. I have one coming to me in a couple of weeks. I went with natural.

I ordered a couple of conventional rod blanks from NFC in the spring and it took two months to receive them. Just a fair warning for those who would like to get a build started right away.

I’ve had (edge) orders take a couple months, but mostly they’ve shipped right away. Just ordered one of NFC’s 8684 rods on Monday and it shipped Wednesday.

Just dropped off mine at a local builder I use. I can't wait to get my hands on this thing and put a fish on it!
