Hi everyone,

We just added two new blanks to the site. The first is a 7' 3/4wt. five-piece travel blank. It has tip over ferrules, a dark brown translucent finish, and a medium progressive action. You can find the blanks and kits at the links below:

The second blank is an updated version of the popular Amarillo blank. The new blank is rolled on the same mandrel only features tip over ferrules, three piece construction, and a medium orange transparent finish. It loads smooth with a moderate progressive action.

The travel blank looks fantastic.

Do the kits still come with snake brand guides? If I didn't have a backlog of unbuilt rods, I would jump at this one. I like the tip over butt ferrule and the softer action. I'm still tempted, because it sounds like a perfect hike-in brookie rod.

Hi Carl,

Thanks for the reply. The 7' travel kit can be ordered with a range of guides. We offer a SB upgrade also. Perfect for backpacking.

Just got the notification email. I'm definitely going to need to build the travel rod after I clear the backlog of current rods. At just under 17" per section, that'll be a nice travel rod.

No, the blanks are made overseas.

Hi Matt,
Blanks look great! How wide is the butt end of the butt section on the 5 pc?
Thanks

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your replies. I just checked the 5 piece and the widest part of the butt section measures in at: 0.416".

I’m getting a hankering to build one of these. Any plans for a 5-piece in heavier line weights?

Hi, thanks for your reply. No plans right now for a heavier travel blank, but I do have some customers who have been fishing it with a 5wt. line and have been happy.

These are very nice. Input for brookie fishing? Are they good?

Absolutely. I have a good friend who lives and fishes outside Asheville NC. He has both the Lantern and the travel rod and uses both for small mountain streams.

I’m building the Twig 7’ 5-piece at the moment. Question -where do you find a rod tube for a rod this short?

Good question. I would give Ron a call over at Landmark Components. He can custom fit a rod tube for you. Here is their site:
