Just a brief note to let any interested parties know that once I get the last few commissioned builds out, I'll be building on my tapers (all rolled by Mike McFarland) beginning Jan 1, 2019. They'll be built with the usual US-made hardware - Bellinger and Lemke (and some will feature my own new hardware as I figure out turning metal), Snake Brand guides, occasionally REC titanium and Arguello agates - and the same painstaking attention to detail as my customers have come to expect over the past several years. No knock-off bits, no junk. Socks and tubes all from US sources, so the only component found outside the US is the cork - and it's all exceptional grade flor. These rods will go up for sale here and elsewhere as they're ready to fish. Here is my current lineup:

7'1" 1wt 3pc moderate clear
7'0" 2/3wt 4pc moderate progressive clear
8'4" 3wt (can handle a WF4 for close in work) 3pc moderate fast black
8'7" 6/7wt 3pc fast black
8'8" 7/8wt 4pc moderate fast clear
8'4" 8/9wt 3pc moderate clear
8'8" 10/11wt 4pc fast clear
8'3" 12wt 2pc fast yellow
8'0" 14wt 2pc fast black

If not glaringly obvious already, the vast majority of these builds will be salt-friendly. I've spent considerable time developing these tapers and plan on building around 20-25 rods total in 2019 as time allows.

We had our 4th kid back at the beginning of June and with two hurricanes coming through this summer, plus dealing with family health issues, it's become apparent that it's just not fair to ask clients for the extreme patience they've thankfully granted me this year.

Looking forward to experimenting with more new stuff next year to add to the lineup in 2020, too!

Marty

Always look forward to your work Marty. Love that you're focusing on glass fishing tools for your local environs.

The 8'4" 3wt handles a WF4 well enough, but to be honest, I'm not even going to try to compete with the ********* western glass in 8'9" for 5wt or the McFarland 8'8" 4wt. At some point maybe I'll go niche with short 4 and 5wts after I dial in making signature cap and ring hardware. My particular focus has now become bigger rods for salt and heavy freshwater use, but my heart will forever be in Shenandoah NP - hence the 1wt and the 2/3. There are 25 years of my own personal experience fishing Appalachian brook trout with glass that went into the design of those tapers...not that the world needs another glass 3wt but I figured what the heck, I might as well offer two of them in extremely different flavors.

I'll be interested to see that 7' 2/3wt, especially for Southern Appalachian Brookies

Once the final prototype is wrapped, would you like to demo it?

One on the bench now and I'll post up photos when it's done. This one took more time to get right than any of the others - but it's just incredible.

You've accepted your fate as a hopeless addict. If you're ever in the market to demo one, don't hesitate to ask. The 8'4" 8/9wt 3pc was designedas a multi-purpose rod that would cover toothy critters, coastal winter steelhead out your way, redfish, stripers and big carp. Honestly even the 8'8" 7/8wt 4pc wouldn't be too little for steelhead, either. It put a 36" snook on a boat in FL yesterday.

That 8’8” 7/8 looks like a great bass/pike rod. Easy to pack in to favorite remote holes at four pieces.

Just reread this post and somehow I earlier missed the info re: your one weight rod. I love light line rods so looking forward to pictures. Roy
