Friends and Fellow Fisherman of Fiberglass Fly Rods,

First a thank you for the large amount of support I have received from the members of this forum since the inception of the ********* Rod Co and the Western Glass Series. Due to that support I am pleased to announce my new series, ********* Glass.

********* Glass:

We all have our favorite small to medium sized waters, so I set out to design a series of rods for those special waters. Whether you’re fishing your favorite stream or exploring to see what waits for you beyond the next bend I wanted rods suited for the many small to medium sized streams that are often our sanctuaries away from the rest of the world.
Utilizing the same Unidirectional S-Glass as my Western Glass I am able to create light, full flexing rods, with the responsiveness we’ve come to enjoy from Uni-S Glass. All ********* Glass blanks are rolled domestically and are in a 3pc tip over butt configuration.

7’ 3wt: For the smaller blue lines. The ones that have our favorite wild/native trout where a 10” fish is a monster. Relaxed, smooth, and full flexing, this rod will be a blast on tiny trout streams.

7’6” 3wt: For those streams that are just a little bit bigger, where you might run into 12-14 incher or might to do a little high sticking. Full flexing like the 703 with a little more power in the lower section.

7’6” 4wt: A dry fly rod for smaller to medium sized streams or anywhere trout are sipping insects. Full flexing for those delicate presentations. When I was developing this rod I kept thinking of the stream in PA where I taught myself how to fish.

8’ 4wt: The bigger brother to the 764, a great Spring Creek rod. A little more power in the lower half and perfect for dry flies. I can think of some very famous and not so famous spring creeks this rod would excel on. Not to mention freestones with great PMD, Sulphur, and Baetis hatches.

8’ 5wt: This rod is made for your “Area 51”. The one stream you have to get away from it all and also where you might run into a 16-20” trout. For those medium sized streams where you need to throw hoppers, drakes, hendricksons, stoneflies, or any attractor a trout would want to eat. This is going to be my headwater hopper rod where I get some 20” Cutts. Between Medium and Medium fast, very responsive but enough power to punch through a breeze with a hopper.

8’ 6wt: The bigger brother to the 805 and little brother to the Western Glass 866. This is an all around 6, for those days where you may need to nymph, throw woolly buggers, and cast small dry flies. What comes to mind for me are streams like the Ruby in March, April, and October, not to mention the great eastern mid sized streams like the Willowemoc, Kettle, or Young Womans’ Creeks in the Early Spring and the Fall. A bit more power in the lower half than the 805 but with great feel.

Appointments:
Rods are finished with the finest components available, ********* Rod Lemke Seats (slide bands for the 703, 763, and 764), Snake Brand Universal Light wire Guides (regular light wire for 3wts), Flor Grade Grips, and will come with a Rod Tube w/logo and bag. Rods come in 3 colors, White/Clear, Brown, and Black (in limited quantities).

Rod prices: $600 Agate guides and darkened hardware are available upon request and will be priced on a custom basis.

Blanks: $230 Presently blanks are only available in white/clear.

Damnit Dusty! I just got the third degree and subsequent crucifixion from the boss-lady about a recent eBay rod purchase. How am I going to explain $600 for the 8’ 5wt :lol Seriously though, when BobHa was in Colorado last month he had great things to say about that rod so I, naturally, desperately need one.

I've been wanting a ********* rod for since they came out. I recently started saving for one of their 4 wt western glass rods in 8'9". So hopefully I will be ordering one in the near future.

Dusty’s rods I are the best. I adore my 8’6” and 8’9” 5 wts. Robert I am with you after I pay off a few unexpected expenses I really want the 8’ 5 wt and a 7’6” 3 wt. I consider the Western 8’6” 5 wt. as one of the all time great glass rods and Dusty told me the 8’ 5wt is in that same spiritual realm

Congratulations on the new line-up. I have recently fished your 8'9" 5-weight over two long, challenging days and several miles of water, and it has been fantastic. It is quickly becoming one of my favorites.

If this new series of rods is of equal quality (and with your products, that's an easy thing to assume), then it will be impressive. I am very much looking forward to casting these at the Montana Clave soon.

Just when I had myself convinced I was done buying rods for awhile. I think I’ll be needing that 8’ 4wt!

Ok, so I'm the lucky one to get #1 in the 805/3 configuration of the 'new' series...I'm not going to steal Dusty's thunder by posting any photos, but suffice it to say the build is up to his usual perfect standards (mine's the black blank with his full Ritz grip...which is my favorite grip of all time)...casting is....incredible to say the least, and yes, it does share the same 'spiritual realm' as the 865 (good description by the way)....it's in between medium and medium-fast (just where it should be in my opinion) with a VERY nice recovery...it balances right at the end of the grip with a 4.2 oz reel, or about 1.5 inches back from the grip end with a 6.2 oz reel...with a WF5F line it could do anything I asked of it from 10 to 60 ft. no problem...I had a 6wgt. sink tip line on another reel and it threw that just as easily (with a deeper load, of course)....it is indeed like a lighter, shorter 865 that easily lets a 10" fish give you a smile and has no issues whatever with a 20" trout or decent smallie....to me, it's like having a rod with the liveliness of a Steffen with the smoothness of a Kenny....just a wonderful 'all-arounder.'

Backing 1, thanks for the review of the ********* 805. I have a an 805 kit coming and am really looking forward to putting this rod together. I really like the glass 8’ 5 wt. configuration. I have a few from other makers I enjoy fishing. But my favorite glass is the western 8’ 6” 5 wt. so when Dusty announced he was producing a 8’ 5 wt. I had to have one. I mostly nymph and fish streamers on bigger rivers and lakes so I prefer long glass rods. I have never cast/ fished the longer glass rods that Larry Kenney builds but I hear they are amazing. I am sure they are wonderful as I was a Scott G devotee for years when they were in the Bay Area. But for me Dusty’s long glass has no equal. The Western 8’6” 5 wt. is a religious experience so if his new 805 is in that same Spirtual realm I will be forever greatful.

Cast some of Dusty’s new tapers today at the Bozeman Bamboo gathering. Really liked and enjoyed casting the 703, 804, and 805. But I think my favorite was the 764. It was a darn nice rod. If fact, I thought it was one of the nicest rods in any material in that line size and length I ever cast. It is just a super rod! Keep up the good work Dusty.

Dusty's got a great line up of rods. Hope to try some of his graphite rods in the future too

I'm hoping someone took some pictures of the event! :)

The sleepers in the ********* lineup are the 864 and 863. Dusty made me an 863 that's going to be my spring creek rod (I sold my Sage 389 LL after casting it because, who needs a fragile graphite rod that imitates glass and cane if you can have a real glass rod).

If I didn't have a Hallowell/McFarland 884 now, I'd probably have one of Dusty's 864s too.

Love my 863. It's an amazing blank (rod). That soft tip is so special, but you do need to get used to it.

Hope everyone had a great fishing season. My summer was extremely busy with a wedding, fishing, travel, the Clave etc... I am getting a little more caught up and filling orders of this series and wanted to share a photo of my 703, 763, and 764 demos. Image

Seven days ago, on the 3rd cast with the 863 Dusty built for me, a 17 inch Brown had no chance against the rod...excellent rod for the Firehole...looking forward to using it on Paradise Valley Spring Creeks as well.

Looking forward to using one of his 895s next March and April in pre runoff on the Gallatin.

Two rods from guys who can build a great casting/fishing rod with a grip that fits my paw and a reelseat that is both light and holds reels securely. A Barclay (7105) on the top and a ********* (863) on the bottom.
