I am releasing a series of Glass rods. The first taper is based on a vintage rod that belonged to my grandfather it is an 8'1 5wt 3pc. The maker of the original rod is unknown but it is one of the finest tapers I have cast and has been well received anytime it was cast. It is a progressive taper with a mid flex. The blanks are being rolled by Mike McFarland in Bellwood Pa. I only plan on building a few a month as I still plan on perusing Bamboo along with other woodworking.
The specs on the rod are as follows.
8'1 5wt 3pc, black e-glass with clear ferrules.
the seat is a lemke built Cap and ring to my specs made out of Duronze and blued. The insert is Pa Cherry burl that I turn. I could also use a double slide band made of duronze or a downlocking Lemke lc7. Price of the rod is $485 plus shipping and includes an aluminium tube. I will take trade ins, I will also not take any money until the rod has shipped.

I also have a very unique 6'6 4wt coming out soon in the next month or two, It is a fatter tip with shallow taper that flexes deep but still throws a tight loop.

If any one is interested trying it, I have a demo I can send you
Bob

Bob graciously offered to let me demo the 8'1" 5wt. I plan on taking some casting video and product photos to share here on the forum. With two great minds behind the design of these rods, I'm sure that they are going to be fantastic! I will keep you guys updated.

Bob's builds are some of the finest I have seen and his bamboo are beautifully casting rods. I have no doubt that this will be as good as anything that I have seen and/or cast from Bob. Congrats on your new series!

"Fly Rods Should Be Brown, Dammit!", but if it's gotta be black, that's a pretty one.

Proudly pull the trigger, as owning two of Bob's builds(Riffle blank and Fred Paddock's Lemon Drop), everything said about his build quality is true and pictures do not display the true beauty but most importantly Bob is a friend for life. Loved the guy from first time we met at The Feathered Hook!

Congratulations, Bob! I certainly echo the comments of MBRL and JASTrout. Bob is a great guy and an amazing craftsman. I look forward to seeing and casting your rods.

Those are some sweet looking rods, Bob!

I really like the black blanks. Are you going to be doing basically standard builds, or customizing colors and perhaps reel seats?

Cheers,
Randy

Thank you very much guys!

Clarkman, my plans are to keep the thread the same for rod, the green for the 8'1 and chestnut on the 6'6 when released. That said if someone really can't stand the color I will work with them. As for seats I do plan to have a standard seat per rod type, for this rod I think a down locking slide band works great. The 6'6 I plan on the standard seat being the dual slide band. That said I will use either of these seats on any build along with a standard Lemke downlock screw seat for people who don't like slide bands. For woods, my wood of choice is Pa cherry burl locally harvested some with natural flaws that will be well sealed as I dip stabilize in nelsonite then varnish. Once again I will work with someone who doesn't like burl as I have a large stock of domestic and exotic wood. There would be no extra charge for these changes. Last option would be hook keeper or not.

Thanks
Bob

The rod looks great! Like how the little light-colored trim on the wraps complements the ferrules. Sounds like an interesting taper as well.

Well said Mike. Bob is top drawer in my book and his work is superb, plus he's a heck of a good guy. He can do anything, and also builds a fine bamboo rod too.
