My reel "The Can" has been a pet project for two years, and we have finally finished the first batch of ten reels. We decided to offer it with an extra solid spool in aluminum, together with the PEI spool. All delivered in a wooden box.

These will be offered through DAP Reels in the Netherlands. It has been a fun project, and we have a few new ideas for the upcoming versions.

Thanks for looking!

Christian

Here is a preview of a ported spool. This prototype will be evaluated this summer, and hopefully be added as an option in the future.

Such a beautiful set, but that was expected.

I'm assuming all ten are spoken. I hope this isn't an inappropriate question but what is the current retail price on "the can" ?

Very interesting. I remember seeing The Can with one of your rods in the rod photos forum.

What are the weights of the models?

Original version is 3.4 oz, and with titanium somewhere 3.8 oz. I haven't touched the final prototype of the ported version, so it's only an educated guess.

It's a plastic spool, made from PEI/ultem. There are many performance polymers that work well for fly reel manufacturing. Very few (or none?) of them can match the durability and low cost of aluminum. That's why we have decided to offer this reel with an extra alu spool. PEI is strong and can take scratches. But if you are going to fish among big rocks, I would choose the metal spool.

The solid Aluminum spool looks gorgeous. It is a nice addition.
It is probably in one of the old threads, but what is the size/capacity of this reel. It is impossible to tell from these photos.

Hello! I use Instagram these days for updates. Still building, but less rods per year and mixing with bamboo.

Instagram handle: finetackle

The Can was made in a limited run of 50 sets, and they probably sit in reel displays over the world. I have been thinking about picking up the design, but would like to make improvements. Mainly mechanical ones, change the clicker, better tolerances etc.

Time is always my limitation. I promise to let you know if anything happens.

Cheers/Christian
