Here are a couple photos I took of mine earlier this week. Photo was taken early in the morning when it was cloudy so the color is not as vibrant as it would be in the sun.

Well I just tried mine out, glass really isn't as slow as I thought it'd be! It was without a doubt much slower than my graphite stuff but it didn't take long to get the rhythm down. I found it was best at distances between 10 and 25 feet, any longer and I had to work for it a bit.

That reel looks GREAT on the rod. Like they came together in a package. Beautiful ...

You are right about the casting distance, generally speaking. I found that by using a leader with a stiffer butt section, it turned over more line with less effort. Though, in general, it seems to cast most comfortably between ~12 and 22/23ish feet. Exactly what a small stream/mountain creek rod should be doing by design. I really feel that this series is right up there with the Echo glass series. IMHO, Redington quality and performance are "exceptional" and represent an incredible value.

It was a really nice late winter day today so I took the rod out for some casting ...

Ya, my report is no leader, just the line, with a heavier fly on there I imaging I could get some more distance out of it if I had to.

Just took it outside again, managed about 45' again sans leader. Wind was pretty tough on the light line so I'll try again when it calms down and let you know what happens then.

Yeah, it can get more line out than needed. But, it is nice to know it has that reserve and with a little practice, presentation can be enhanced. Good boo suffers from lateral twist, but with focus can be largely overcome. Different material, different issues, though solutions are there to virtually each one.

The Butterstick is a really really good looking rod, especially the shots of it in the sun. Humm, how would I explain a new rod so soon after the last?

I've never been married, but a friend who has said the secret is to never go in or out of the door without carrying at least three rod tubes and/or gun cases. Before long, she'll stop even trying to keep up.

Then again, when he told me that, I think he was between wives 2 and 3, so maybe add a grain of salt.

The more time I spend with it, the more I appreciate just how fabulous it is.

With due respect to the salt, perhaps in addition to carrying the rod cases each time you come through the door, on the way in - adding flowers, or a box of candy might be a nice touch.

cast the Butter Stick 4wgt 7'6" demo with 5wf line at a shop's indoor casting area today and came away impressed. I am looking to try the 8' 5wgt before buying. The 4 was light, responsive and accurate. I understand they are made of Technical glass, an S glass. Neil

I was able to check out the 7'6" 4wt and the 7' 3wt a few weeks back at the Pleasanton fly fishing show. The 4wt I set down after giving a good wiggle. It may very well be a fine rod but for my taste the butt felt too stiff. The three on the other hand felt nicely glassy and flexed down to the grip.

I spent twenty enjoyable minutes casting with it and came away impressed. I found it accurate, easy to cast, and had no problem with loop control out to around 45' or so. On the negative side, It didn't have as much of a loading feel as I would like at distances under 15'. Casting with a 4wt Rio Gold helped some but I still found it more enjoyable beyond the 15' mark.

For those who like 3-4wt rods capable of some distance, I think this rods worth a look. I liked it a lot, but ultimately I like my light line rods to load well in close and with only a moderate casting stroke.

Ok, so I taped it a couple days ago and it's more like 52', still not bad for a 2wt I'd say.

52' is great for that weight rod! Did you feel that you had good control with that cast? Did it land where you expected it to land in your mind's eye? Thanks for taping it and reporting on it.

I'd say past 30' accuracy was getting worse, I could aim for an area 5ft across but that's about it at the long distances.

I casted the 4wt last week.I didn't think is was all that great. To me it's a tad on the heavy side and too fast.I did cast it along side the 4wt echo.If I was forced to choose between the two it would be the butter stick.

Truth be told I don't think either of the rod's are all that good.

The 7'6" 4 weight Butter Stick has earned its place as my "vehicle rod.". With this rod and either a 4 weight or 5 weight double taper, a lanyard, some flies, my fishing license and a couple of leaders, I am ready for some small stream wet wading whenever. Had fun today fishing a rocky creek ... must add a hook hone to my lanyard!
